EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – The Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Cooperation, and Information Systems of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ), dr. Ria Maria Theresa, Sp.KJ., M.H., officially opened the badminton tournament held in commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia on Thursday (6 August 2026). The tournament, held at Putra Perdana Badminton Hall, was one of the activities organized as part of UPNVJ’s Independence Day Celebration.
In her opening remarks, Ria stated that the badminton tournament was not only intended to enliven the Independence Day celebration but also to provide direct health and fitness benefits for the participants.
“This event is particularly meaningful because, in addition to celebrating Indonesia’s Independence Day, badminton promotes good health and helps participants maintain their physical fitness,” Ria said.
According to her, sporting activities serve as an effective means of maintaining a healthy balance between work productivity and physical well-being. The tournament also provided an opportunity for staff members from various university units to meet, interact, and strengthen camaraderie beyond their daily professional responsibilities.
Ria further encouraged all participants to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the competition. She emphasized that a competitive spirit should always be accompanied by mutual respect so that the tournament could proceed in an orderly, healthy, and enjoyable atmosphere.
The badminton tournament forms part of UPNVJ’s series of activities commemorating the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. These commemorative events are organized to foster a festive atmosphere while strengthening relationships among members of the university community and administrative staff.
Through sporting activities, UPNVJ promotes a healthy lifestyle while cultivating a collaborative work culture. The values of discipline, teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship demonstrated during the tournament are closely aligned with the spirit of Bela Negara (State Defense), which serves as one of UPNVJ’s defining institutional values.
The tournament officially commenced following the opening ceremony, with badminton matches featuring representatives from various units across the university. Participants competed not only to achieve sporting success but also to celebrate Indonesia’s Independence Day in a spirit of friendship and unity.
UPNVJ hopes that the 81st Independence Day Celebration will become more than an annual series of competitions by continuing to strengthen solidarity, promote physical well-being, and inspire all members of the university community to provide the highest quality of service to the academic community and society at large.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
