EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – The Rector of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ), Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, M.A., Comm., emphasized that the Four Pillars of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI) must not remain merely as concepts that are heard, memorized, and discussed. Instead, these national values should be internalized and reflected in concrete attitudes and actions, rather than becoming mere rhetoric.
Prof. Venus delivered the remarks while opening the National Seminar on National Insight and the Dissemination of the Four Pillars of MPR RI at the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Auditorium, UPNVJ, on Tuesday (July 14, 2026). Organized through a collaboration between UPNVJ, MPR RI, and Resonansi, the event brought together approximately 250 participants, including members of the university’s academic community and student representatives.
According to Prof. Venus, Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) constitute the fundamental pillars of the nation. These principles, he stressed, should not be regarded merely as topics for public dissemination but must be embodied in everyday life.
“The song we sang together reflects the values of the Four Pillars that serve as the foundation of our nation. The dissemination of the Four Pillars should become a platform that genuinely brings these values to life,” he said.
He further noted that promoting national values has become increasingly important amid globalization and the accelerating process of internationalization. While openness to the global community is essential, he argued, it must go hand in hand with a strong commitment to preserving national identity, unity, and the country’s interests.
“In this era of internationalization, our nation will remain strong only if we consistently safeguard our unity and uphold our unwavering commitment to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” he affirmed.
Prof. Venus also highlighted the strategic role of higher education institutions in ensuring that young people develop not only academic excellence but also a strong sense of national awareness. Universities, he said, should foster critical thinking while strengthening students’ responsibility for the nation’s future and sustainability.
Through the seminar, UPNVJ encouraged its academic community to embrace the Four Pillars as guiding principles in thought, attitude, and action. In doing so, these national values will transcend slogans and discourse, evolving into a shared collective consciousness that strengthens Indonesia’s unity and integrity.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
