Unpad Faculty of Agriculture Strengthens Research Capacity Through International Research Proposal Development Workshop

EduAsiaNews, Bandung — The Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) held a workshop under the Diaspora Berdampak Program titled “How to Develop Competitive International Research Proposals” on Thursday (Sept. 10, 2026). The workshop was held in a hybrid format at the SPD Room, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran.

The workshop featured Dr. Dhanan Sarwo Utomo, an assistant professor at Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, as the speaker.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Agriani Hermita Sadeli, S.P., M.E., emphasized the importance of strengthening the capacity of academics and students to develop competitive research proposals at the international level. The workshop was expected to provide a platform for participants to develop innovative research ideas that could benefit society.

“This workshop is an important momentum for strengthening the capacity of academics and postgraduate students to develop internationally competitive research proposals. Through this workshop, we hope participants will not only gain an understanding of proposal development but also be able to develop innovative and relevant research ideas that create a tangible impact on society,” Agriani said.

The workshop formed part of efforts to strengthen the capacity of academics and postgraduate students to develop internationally competitive research proposals. Through the program, participants gained insights into strategies for developing research proposals that are not only substantively strong but also address research needs and issues at the global level.

In his presentation, Dr. Dhanan Sarwo Utomo discussed various key aspects of developing international research proposals, ranging from building research ideas and formulating research problems and objectives to preparing proposals with strong novelty, relevance and potential impact.

Participants also learned about the importance of aligning research ideas with funding schemes as well as the needs of international partners and communities.

According to the event information, the workshop was open to postgraduate students and academics, providing a platform for learning and knowledge exchange to strengthen research capacity and competitiveness.

The Diaspora Berdampak Program also forms part of efforts to strengthen academic networks and international collaboration. The participation of an academic with experience at an international higher education institution was expected to provide new perspectives for the academic community in developing research, building cross-border collaborations and increasing opportunities to participate in international research schemes.

Through the workshop, the Faculty of Agriculture at Unpad continues to promote stronger human resource capacity and a research culture oriented toward quality, innovation, collaboration and impact. The development of competitive research proposals is expected to support research that can make tangible contributions to the advancement of knowledge and address agricultural challenges at both the national and global levels.

The event is in line with Universitas Padjadjaran’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through enhanced academic capacity and lifelong learning, as well as SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through stronger international academic networks and collaboration.
