EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – The Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ), Dr. Henry Binsar Hamonangan Sitorus, S.T., M.T., emphasized that a culture of quality cannot be built instantly. According to him, a quality culture must become a way of life that is implemented consistently, sustainably, and data-driven by the entire academic community. He delivered these remarks during the Launching of the UPNVJ Internal Quality Audit Information System (SI-AMI), organized by the Institute for Quality Assurance and Learning Development (LPMPP) on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

The event, moderated by the Head of LPMPP UPNVJ, Satria Yudhia W., S.E., M.S.Ak., was part of UPNVJ’s efforts to strengthen quality assurance governance through digital transformation. The launch of SI-AMI is expected to provide a more integrated, effective, adaptive, and easily monitored internal quality audit system for work units, study programs, faculties, and university leadership.

In his presentation, Dr. Henry explained that the quality of higher education institutions is built through a strong interconnection between the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) and the External Quality Assurance System (SPME). He described SPMI as the primary foundation for building institutional quality, while SPME serves as a reflection of the institution’s internal processes to the public.

“Quality is built internally through SPMI and demonstrated to the outside world through SPME. The two are inseparable,” said Dr. Henry.

He emphasized that the implementation of SPMI must be embedded in academic activities and daily governance. According to him, the cycle of Determination, Implementation, Evaluation, Control, and Improvement (PPEPP) must be applied earnestly in every work unit, study program, and faculty.

“When SPMI is implemented seriously, excellent accreditation results are no longer something we merely pursue, but rather a natural consequence,” he explained.

Dr. Henry also highlighted various forms of external assessment, ranging from BAN-PT accreditation, the Study Program Accreditation Instrument 5.0 (IAPS 5.0), Independent Accreditation Agency accreditation, to international accreditation. According to him, all these assessments essentially reflect the quality that has first been developed internally within the institution.

“SPME is a mirror. It shows the world how far our institution has progressed. What determines the reflection in that mirror is SPMI,” he stated.

Furthermore, he stressed that the main objective of the quality assurance system is not merely to achieve accreditation, but to realize higher education that is high-quality, relevant, impactful, and globally competitive. Therefore, continuous improvement must become part of the work culture of all elements within UPNVJ.

According to Dr. Henry, a quality culture is not solely the responsibility of a single unit. Students, lecturers, study programs, faculties, LPMPP, and university leadership all have their respective roles in maintaining and improving institutional quality.

Students, for instance, are expected to actively provide feedback on learning processes and academic services. Meanwhile, study programs and faculties are responsible for managing, evaluating, and continuously improving academic quality based on data and higher education standards.

The launch of SI-AMI marks a strategic step by UPNVJ in strengthening its internal quality audit process through digitalization. Through this system, the processes of documentation, monitoring, evaluation, and follow-up on audit results are expected to become more systematic and transparent.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
