EduAsiaNews, Belitung – Universitas Bangka Belitung (UBB) has reaffirmed its commitment to creating a meaningful impact on society through community engagement initiatives. This time, a team of academics from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) and the Faculty of Law (FH) conducted an educational outreach program at Gantung State Junior High School 3 in Lilangan Village, Gantung District, East Belitung Regency, on Tuesday (July 14, 2026).
The community service team, consisting of Reza Adriantika Suntara, Dwi Haryadi, Rafiqa Sari, and Aruna Asista, collaborated with the school to deliver a program entitled “Digital Citizenship Literacy and Legal Awareness for Generation Z in Navigating the VUCA Era (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity).” The initiative was supported by the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of Universitas Bangka Belitung.
A total of 40 participants, comprising students and teacher representatives, took part enthusiastically in the program. From the outset, participants actively engaged with the presentations and discussions on the challenges faced by young people in today’s digital era.
During the session, the academic team emphasized the importance of becoming responsible digital citizens. Topics such as social media ethics, the spread of misinformation, cyberbullying, and potential legal violations in the digital space were presented in an accessible and engaging manner.
Speaking on behalf of the team, Reza Adriantika Suntara stressed that technological advancement must be accompanied by strong character development and legal awareness.
“Amid today’s technological disruption, fostering positive values grounded in legal awareness is essential. By doing so, young people can develop into active, creative, and responsible individuals who utilize digital spaces in accordance with the principles of digital citizenship,” he said.
In addition to explaining various forms of legal violations that may occur online, the team encouraged participants to understand the values and principles necessary for using digital platforms safely, responsibly, and in compliance with Indonesia’s laws and regulations.
The event became increasingly interactive during the discussion session, with students enthusiastically raising questions about social media use, digital security, and the legal consequences of online activities.
One student participant shared that the program had provided valuable new insights.
“This activity has broadened our understanding of how to use the internet responsibly, wisely, and in ways that comply with the law,” the student said.
Bagus Panca Miharja, Principal of Gantung State Junior High School 3, also expressed his appreciation for the initiative undertaken by the UBB academic team. According to him, the topics presented were highly relevant to students, whose daily lives are closely connected to digital technology.
“This educational program delivered by the UBB academics is highly beneficial in enhancing our students’ legal awareness and encouraging the responsible use of internet technology,” he remarked.
As a follow-up to the program, the UBB community service team presented the school with an X-banner containing practical guidelines on digital citizenship and legal awareness. The educational material is expected to serve as a daily reference and reminder for students and the wider school community.
Through this initiative, Universitas Bangka Belitung continues to strengthen its role as a higher education institution that not only excels in education and research but also actively delivers community service programs that address societal needs while nurturing a generation that is digitally competent, ethically responsible, and legally aware.
