
EduAsiaNews, Malang – Universitas Brawijaya (UB), through its International Office, officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Xinwei Technology Group during a ceremony held at the 6th Floor Meeting Room of the UB Rectorate Building on Friday, June 26, 2026. The partnership marks a strategic step toward strengthening collaboration between academia and industry, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), talent development, technological innovation, and the advancement of future industrial ecosystems.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by UB Rector Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.Med.Sc., along with members of the university leadership. Representing Xinwei Technology Group and Geely Talent Development Group, Prof. Dr. Lu Dan, CEO of Geely Talent Development Group and Global CEO of Xinwei Technology Group, joined the ceremony virtually. Meanwhile, the delegation attending in person in Malang was led by Dr. Zoe Che, Vice President of Geely Talent Development Group, accompanied by Christine Zhou, Deputy Director of International Marketing Project Management.
In his remarks, Prof. Widodo emphasized that universities today must move beyond their traditional roles as centers of education and research to become active innovation partners for industry. He noted that collaboration with Xinwei Technology Group presents significant opportunities for multidisciplinary research, technology transfer, and the development of human resources equipped to meet global industrial demands.
“Today, we sign a Memorandum of Understanding. Tomorrow, let us begin building meaningful projects, educating future innovators, advancing cutting-edge technologies, and creating solutions that improve lives,” Prof. Widodo said.
He highlighted UB’s interest in exploring cooperation in a wide range of areas, including joint research initiatives, student and faculty mobility programs, industry internships, guest lectures, collaborative curriculum development, innovation laboratories, and talent development programs supporting digital transformation and Industry 5.0.
UB also sees considerable potential in the emerging Low Altitude Economy, an industry driven by drone technologies, intelligent aerial systems, satellite-enabled communication, and artificial intelligence. As the world’s largest archipelagic nation, Indonesia stands to benefit significantly from these technologies in precision agriculture, smart logistics, disaster mitigation, environmental monitoring, healthcare delivery, and smart city development. With its strengths in engineering, agriculture, computer science, health sciences, and public policy, UB is well-positioned to contribute to the growth of this sector.
Prof. Dr. Lu Dan, Global CEO of XinWei Technology Group, joined the meeting virtually to present the company’s profile and discuss potential collaboration with Universitas Brawijaya.
Meanwhile, Prof. Lu Dan stated that the partnership is founded on a shared belief in the importance of educational transformation in the age of artificial intelligence. According to him, AI should not merely serve as an additional tool on university campuses, but rather become a fundamental capability that drives organizational change, interdisciplinary research, and talent development.
“We are not introducing AI into campuses as a mere gimmick; rather, we are committed to transforming it into a foundational capability for cognitive advancement, organizational change, and interdisciplinary research and development,” Lu Dan emphasized.
He further explained that Xinwei AI and Geely have been implementing the Three Trans-X Campuses concept comprising the Trans-Sectoral Campus, Trans-Regional Campus, and Trans-Dimensional Campus to foster stronger connections between higher education and industry needs. Through this framework, universities are expected to produce graduates who are not only academically accomplished but also prepared to address real-world challenges.
During the ceremony, Lu Dan also announced the establishment of the Xinwei Malang Institute, an initiative designed to integrate Xinwei AI’s technological expertise with UB’s leading academic programs, particularly in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and related disciplines. The institute is envisioned as a collaborative platform that aligns higher education with industrial development and digital transformation.
He noted that the partnership is further supported by Geely’s long-standing commitment to industry-linked education. Geely’s industrial activities in Indonesia, including its investments in new energy vehicle production and other industrial projects, are expected to provide UB students with valuable opportunities to develop practical competencies through hands-on problem-solving experiences.
Overall, the signing of the MoU marks an important milestone in strengthening ties between Universitas Brawijaya and Xinwei Technology Group in education, research, innovation, and technology transfer. Both institutions expressed optimism that the collaboration will lead to impactful initiatives contributing to scientific advancement, industrial development, and sustainable growth in Indonesia and China.
