EduAsiaNews, Kano Negeria – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) continues to strengthen its international network through a series of activities held as part of The 3rd Indonesia–Kano Expo 2026 in Kano, Nigeria.
On 3 July 2026, the Rector of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), Prof. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Si., held meetings with the leaders of two higher education institutions in Kano, Nigeria—Bayero University Kano and Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN).
During his meeting with the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, Prof. Haruna Musa, the two institutions discussed plans for short-, medium-, and long-term collaboration. Key areas of discussion included joint research, community development initiatives, faculty and student exchange programs, and collaborative publications in international scientific journals.
Accompanied by ULM Vice Rector for Cooperation and Planning, Dr. Ir. Yusuf Azis, M.Sc., the Rector also visited Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), one of the largest private universities in Kano.
During the visit, both universities agreed to develop cooperation in lecturer exchange programs, collaborative research, scientific article writing, and postgraduate education opportunities, including master’s and doctoral studies for KHAIRUN alumni and faculty members at ULM.
On the sidelines of The 3rd Indonesia–Kano Expo 2026, the ULM Rector was also invited to deliver a keynote address before the expo participants.
In his speech, he outlined Indonesia’s national development agenda, which is currently focused on transformation across various sectors in pursuit of the Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision.
According to the Rector, national development is being implemented through close collaboration among the government, the business sector, and higher education institutions to ensure that development is effective, inclusive, and sustainable.
He also explained the government’s initiatives to strengthen the governance of state-owned enterprises through Danantara, aimed at improving efficiency, productivity, and long-term business sustainability. In addition, he highlighted downstream industrial development as one of Indonesia’s key national strategies, with universities serving as strategic partners in advancing science, technology, and innovation.
The Rector further emphasized that Indonesia’s national development priorities continue to focus on strengthening the agricultural sector, achieving energy independence, improving the quality of human resources, and enhancing economic self-reliance.
“Indonesia is currently undertaking a comprehensive development transformation across various sectors as part of its journey toward Golden Indonesia 2045,” the ULM Rector stated in his address.
The series of engagements in Kano forms part of ULM’s ongoing efforts to expand cross-border academic collaboration while strengthening the University’s role in advancing higher education, research, and community engagement at the international level.
During the meeting with KHAIRUN, widely recognized as one of the largest private universities in Kano, both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration in lecturer exchange programs, joint research, scientific publication, and postgraduate study opportunities for KHAIRUN alumni and academic staff at ULM.
In addition to expanding academic partnerships, the ULM Rector was honored to deliver a keynote speech at The 3rd Indonesia–Kano Expo 2026, attended by participants from various countries.
In his address, he elaborated on Indonesia’s development vision toward Golden Indonesia 2045, emphasizing collaboration among government, industry, and higher education institutions as the foundation for inclusive and sustainable national development.
He also highlighted several strategic government policies, including strengthening the governance of state-owned enterprises through Danantara to enhance efficiency, productivity, and long-term national competitiveness. Furthermore, industrial downstreaming was identified as one of the government’s strategic priorities, with universities playing a central role in driving innovation and research.
The Rector also underscored Indonesia’s achievements in the agricultural sector, particularly its attainment of rice self-sufficiency. Looking ahead, he noted that national development will continue to prioritize energy security, the enhancement of human capital, and greater economic independence.
ULM’s participation in the Indonesia–Kano Expo 2026 reflects the University’s strong commitment to expanding international partnerships, enhancing its global academic reputation, and creating broader opportunities for collaboration in education, research, and human resource development with institutions around the world.
