EduAsiaNews, Jakarta — Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (FISIP UPNVJ) held its 2026 Faculty-Level Campus Life Orientation Program (PKKMB) on August 12–13, 2026, at Balai Prajurit Ragunan, South Jakarta. A total of 1,012 new FISIP UPNVJ students took part in the two-day program under the theme “Cakrawala Muda, Mencari Arah, Menentukan Tujuan” (Young Horizons: Finding Direction, Defining Goals).
The program provided students with academic orientation, insights into nationalism and democracy, opportunities for achievement and student organizations, career preparation, and guidance on adapting to the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI).
Based on monitoring by Oki Putra Budiarahman, S.H., Head of the Academic Division of UPNVJ’s Bureau of Academic, Student Affairs, and Cooperation, the 1,012 new students comprise 355 students in the Bachelor’s Program in Communication Science, 235 in International Relations, 193 in Political Science, 118 in Information Science, and 40 in Film, Television, and Media Studies. At the graduate level, there are 49 students in the Master’s Program in Communication Science, 11 in International Relations, and 11 in Political Science. Overall, FISIP UPNVJ has 4,682 active students in the first semester of the 2026/2027 academic year.
The first day began with an Open Faculty Senate Session led by FISIP UPNVJ Dean Dr. S. Bekti Istiyanto, M.Si. The session was followed by the ceremonial presentation and distribution of new students to their respective study programs, an overview of the faculty’s areas of work by the dean, and an introduction to the departments. These activities were designed to familiarize students from the outset with the academic system and educational environment in which they will develop throughout their studies.
The session on nationalism and democracy featured Dr. Bob Hasan, S.H., M.H., Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives’ Legislative Body (Baleg DPR RI). Students were encouraged not to focus solely on academic achievement but also to develop their capacities through organizations, discussions, and student activities. Intellectual ability, leadership, communication skills, and emotional maturity were highlighted as important assets for students seeking to contribute to society.
FISIP UPNVJ also broadened students’ international perspectives through a presentation by a lecturer from Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Malaysia. The program also included sessions on preventing and addressing violence in higher education, library services, and the Student Creativity Program. These sessions introduced students to a campus ecosystem that is safe, inclusive, and supportive of academic and creative development.
Preparing students for changes in the professional world was another major focus of the program through a session entitled “Beyond Major, Find Your Path.” The session featured Nicola Gibran Aljaya, CEO and Founder of SolvaAI and an AI content creator, together with a representative of BCA Syariah. Students were encouraged to understand that career paths are not necessarily limited by their chosen fields of study. Academic expertise, they were told, needs to be complemented by technological skills, communication abilities, organizational experience, internships, professional networks, and the courage to pursue new opportunities.
On the second day, the program continued with an academic briefing by the FISIP UPNVJ Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, followed by a sharing session featuring accomplished students. Five student achievers — Riyadi, Evan, Tito, Sakurako, and Alya — shared their experiences in pursuing academic and non-academic achievements during their university years.
The creative and film industries were also highlighted through a session with screenwriter Jujur Prananto. Through his presentation and discussion with students, participants gained insights into the creative process, the importance of consistency in creative work, and opportunities to develop professional skills in the creative industry. The session was particularly relevant to FISIP UPNVJ, which encompasses disciplines ranging from social sciences, communication, politics, and international relations to information science and film, television, and media studies.
Student participation was further encouraged through the “Cakrawala Berbicara” session. Students worked in groups to formulate responses before presenting their ideas to fellow participants. The activity was designed to build confidence in expressing opinions, critical thinking, teamwork, and the ability to communicate ideas in a structured manner.
New students were also introduced to a wide range of student organizations and student study groups, including BEM FISIP, Senat Mahasiswa FISIP, HIMAPOL, HIMAIKOM, HIMAHI, HIMASIFO, HIMAKFTVM, FIVE TV, EOS, FIBER, FOURTYFIVE Radio, Tim Protokoler, FOP, COMIC, and FPCI. These organizations and communities provide opportunities for students to develop leadership, creativity, professional skills, networks, as well as interests and talents beyond the classroom.
Through PKKMBF 2026, FISIP UPNVJ positioned campus orientation not merely as a ceremonial event, but as an important starting point for developing students who are critical, adaptive, creative, ethical, and responsive to social issues.
