EduAsiaNews, Jakarta — Prof. Dr. Drs. Anter Venus, M.A., Comm. secured overwhelming support in the selection of rector candidates for Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) for the 2026–2030 term, winning 30 of 34 votes cast by members of the University Senate.

The vote count was determined through balloting in a closed-door Senate meeting held in the Nusantara 1 Meeting Room at UPNVJ’s Pondok Labu campus, Jakarta, on Thursday (July 30, 2026). According to the recapitulation results, Prof. Anter Venus, who ran as candidate number two, garnered 30 votes, or around 88.2 percent of the total senate votes. Meanwhile, candidate number three, Prof. Dr. Drs. Abdul Halim, S.H., M.Ag., and candidate number four, Prof. Dr. Memen Kustiawan, S.E., M.Si., M.H., Ak., CA., CPA., each received two votes.

Candidate number one, Dr. Sakroni, S.ST., M.Pd., failed to secure any votes in the selection process. The voting results established Prof. Anter Venus, Prof. Abdul Halim, and Prof. Memen Kustiawan as the three rector candidates eligible to proceed to the next stage of the UPNVJ Rector Election for the 2026–2030 term.

The three candidates were subsequently confirmed by UPNVJ Senate Chairman Dr. Irsyaf Marsal, S.H., M.H. The results of the selection process will next be submitted to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology to continue through the election stages together with the Minister.

The vote was held after all four prospective candidates presented their vision, mission, and work programs at the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Auditorium on the same campus earlier that day. During the forum, each candidate was given the opportunity to outline their policy direction, university development strategy, and priority programs to be carried out if entrusted with leading UPNVJ.

The voting results were then formalized in a senate meeting decree as the basis for naming the three rector candidates. The selection process took into account track record, leadership capacity, vision for university development, and the alignment of work programs with UPNVJ’s needs.

With the completion of the selection at the University Senate level, UPNVJ has concluded the first stage of the Rector Election for the 2026–2030 term. The process will now move to the selection stage at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, which will determine the rector who will lead UPNVJ for the next four years.

The rector election is regarded as holding a strategic position in maintaining the continuity of UPNVJ’s academic and institutional transformation. The elected rector is expected to be able to strengthen the quality of education, research, and community service, as well as governance, digital transformation, and the university’s reputation at both the national and international levels.

Through this election process, UPNVJ has reaffirmed its commitment to bringing forward leadership that is visionary, adaptive, innovative, of high integrity, and accountable. The vision presented by Anter Venus appears to align with the expectations of senate members, who hope to see UPNVJ undergo transformation and adaptation in step with the times.
