EduAsiaNews, Jambi — A student of the Law Study Program at the Faculty of Law (FH), University of Jambi (UNJA), Class of 2023, Elgradcia Mellissa, has achieved a remarkable distinction on the international stage. She successfully claimed the award for The Most Creative Delegate while also forming part of the EYECONIC team, which secured four awards at the Indonesian Youth Excursion Network (IYEN) x International Youth Innovation Summit (IYIS) 2026, Chapter Malaysia–Singapore, held from 18 to 22 May 2026.
The four awards secured by the EYECONIC team comprised the 1st Best Video Innovation, 2nd Best Project Innovation, 2nd Best Presentation, and Best Team. The team consisted of Elgradcia alongside Ilham Riennardi from IPB University, Elyta Yoja Novita Syafara from the State University of Malang, and Bintang Okta Anggradewi from SMK 1 Mas Ubud.
Elgradcia and her team developed EYETRACE, a digital circular economy platform designed to assist business operators in managing waste as a source of economic value through a digital tracking system, environmental data transparency, and the automation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting.
The innovation arose from an awareness that waste management is not merely an environmental issue, but also an economic opportunity capable of generating sustainability for businesses and communities alike.
The Dean of the Faculty of Law at UNJA, Dr. Hartati, S.H., M.H., conveyed her appreciation and pride over Elgradcia’s achievement.
“The Faculty of Law consistently supports all positive and constructive student activities. The achievement attained by Elgradcia is a source of pride for the faculty and serves as proof that students of the Faculty of Law possess the capacity to excel at both the national and international levels,” said Dr. Hartati.
According to Dr. Hartati, students’ success in various competitions not only brings personal recognition but also strengthens the faculty’s academic reputation. Student achievement constitutes one of the important indicators in maintaining the quality and distinguished status currently held by the UNJA Faculty of Law.
“It is our hope that achievements of this nature will continue to grow and serve as inspiration for other students to keep creating and excelling in various fields. The Faculty of Law will always support every student activity that contributes to personal development as well as the advancement of the faculty,” she added.
Elgradcia’s participation in the program was driven by her desire to develop herself and assess her capabilities within a broader environment. She viewed the program as an opportunity to try things she had never done before, while simultaneously expanding her experience at the international level.
“Initially, I wanted to discover the extent of my abilities when placed in an entirely new environment. I wanted to learn more, meet people from different backgrounds, and prove to myself that I am capable of going further than I had previously imagined,” Elgradcia shared.
Behind this achievement lay considerable challenges that had to be overcome. Elgradcia was required to balance her time between academic coursework and project work. All preparations were carried out while the academic semester was still in progress, meaning she still had to fulfill various academic obligations. Online discussions and meetings were held almost every evening for hours on end in order to refine the concept being developed, while various assessment components also had to be completed within a limited timeframe.
As a law student participating in an economics-focused group, Elgradcia also had to acquire knowledge in areas beyond her primary field of study — from concepts of sustainable economics and business model formulation to the development of technology-based solutions — all of which constituted new experiences that enriched her knowledge and broadened her understanding of the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration.
“One of the most memorable experiences throughout the program was the opportunity to learn alongside other participants who shared the same passion and purpose. I am also grateful to have collaborated with the EYECONIC team, which was able to build a solid collaborative dynamic throughout the competition process,” she added.
The pinnacle of her joy was felt when her name was announced as the recipient of The Most Creative Delegate award — an achievement of profound significance following a journey filled with challenges, learning, and hard work.
“I have learned that we often do not know the capabilities we possess until we truly dare to try. Many opportunities appear daunting at first, yet they bring immensely valuable experiences and lessons when pursued with sincere dedication,” she concluded.
Through this experience, Elgradcia hopes that an increasing number of students will have the courage to seize opportunities for growth, both at the national and international levels. She believes that every experience yields a different lesson and opens new perspectives that can serve as a foundation for the future. With the willingness to keep learning, the courage to try, and the conviction to see the process through, any opportunity can become the beginning of an achievement beyond one’s imagination.
