EduAsiaNews, Gianyar – The Faculty of Law of Udayana University Faculty of Law, through its Bina Desa Batuan Team, has once again demonstrated its commitment as an impactful university for the community by conducting a customary law outreach program themed “Empowerment of Traditional Villages: Strengthening the Position of Awig-Awig within the Alternative Justice System” on Wednesday (20/5/2026).

The event, held at the Batuan Village Head Office, served as both an educational forum and a means of strengthening the understanding of indigenous communities regarding the role of awig-awig in resolving issues within traditional village environments.

The outreach featured customary law expert I Wayan Windia as the main speaker. The presence of this academic is expected to provide a deeper understanding of the existence of customary law and reinforce the position of awig-awig as one of the alternative justice mechanisms that continues to live and develop within Balinese society.

A total of 25 invited participants, consisting of representatives from various traditional villages, attended the event. The program was conducted in an interactive manner, with a circular seating arrangement in a relatively small room to create a warmer and more participatory discussion atmosphere. This concept was considered effective in building a connection between the speaker and participants, allowing for a more open dialogue.

In his presentation, Prof. Windia emphasized the importance of empowering traditional villages through strengthening the understanding of awig-awig as a dispute resolution instrument based on local values. According to him, customary law plays a strategic role in maintaining social harmony while also serving as part of Balinese cultural identity that must be continuously preserved.

Through this activity, the Faculty of Law of Udayana University not only fulfills its educational function but also strengthens the role of higher education institutions in community service. The Bina Desa program represents a tangible implementation of the “Impactful Campus” concept by delivering academic contributions that are directly felt by the community, particularly in supporting the strengthening of the capacity of traditional villages in Bali.
