
EduAsiaNews, Riau – Universitas Riau (Unri), through Duta Unri in collaboration with Bahasa Isyarat Indonesia (Bisindo), organized a sign language training program for Unri students on Friday (22 May 2026) at the Indragiri Room, Rectorate Building of Universitas Riau.
This activity was conducted as part of efforts to enhance students’ awareness and understanding of inclusive communication for individuals with hearing disabilities.
Carrying the theme “The Language Heard by the Heart,” the training was attended by Unri students who were interested in learning and understanding sign language as a friendly and inclusive means of communication within the campus environment and the wider community.
In her remarks, the Advisor of Duta Unri, Clara Yolandika, SP., M.Si., expressed appreciation for the collaboration between Duta Unri and Bisindo in providing a meaningful learning space for students.
“Through this activity, it is hoped that students will understand the basics of sign language and foster empathy and awareness in creating an inclusive environment for everyone,” she stated.
Clara further explained that the training was expected to help build a more inclusive campus culture and strengthen students’ social awareness toward diversity within the Universitas Riau environment.
The training featured Habibi Ramadhan, Founder of Ruang Edu Inklusi, as the keynote speaker. He delivered material on the importance of inclusive communication and introduced the fundamentals of sign language in everyday life.
During the training session, participants were invited to practice various basic sign language vocabularies, ranging from greetings and self-introductions to simple conversations.
