
EduAsiaNews, Pontianak – reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe, comfortable, inclusive, and conducive campus environment for all members of the academic community following a report of alleged sexual violence involving one of its students.
In response to the report received, Universitas Tanjungpura, through its Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education (Satgas PPKPT), chaired by Emilya Kalsum, has undertaken handling measures in accordance with applicable procedures and legal regulations.
At present, the handling and investigation process is still ongoing to further examine the chronology of events and verify facts related to the report. Throughout the process, the university emphasizes the principles of prudence, privacy protection, the presumption of innocence, and assistance for all parties involved.
As part of the handling process and efforts to maintain a conducive academic environment, the UNTAN PPKPT Task Force has coordinated with the relevant faculty leadership to temporarily suspend the reported party’s academic activities during the investigation process.
This measure is temporary and intended to support the smooth conduct of the investigation while ensuring a safe space for all parties involved.
The policy also serves as a preventive measure to maintain safety and comfort for all individuals, prevent potential pressure or direct interaction during the investigation process, and support the creation of a conducive academic atmosphere.
The Rector of Universitas Tanjungpura, Garuda Wiko, emphasized that the university gives serious attention to every report of violence occurring within the campus environment and ensures that all handling processes are conducted professionally, objectively, and in accordance with established procedures.
Universitas Tanjungpura also urged all members of the academic community and the public to respond wisely to circulating information and refrain from disseminating unverified identities or information in order to ensure that the handling process proceeds properly.
As a higher education institution, Universitas Tanjungpura remains committed to strengthening efforts to prevent and address violence within the campus environment in order to create an academic space that is safe, healthy, and grounded in integrity.
