EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – Professor of Communication Management, Anter Venus, emphasized the need to reorganize and redefine humanity’s social position in the era of digitalization and artificial intelligence. The phenomenon of algorithms controlling social narratives and influencing life decisions, he argued, underscores the urgency of repositioning humanity in today’s era.
The warning was delivered by Prof. Anter Venus during the Declaration of the Indonesian Association of Communication Science Lecturers and Researchers (ADPIKI), held at the IPB International Convention Center on Thursday, May 7, 2026. Serving as Chairman of the Advisory Board of ADPIKI, Anter Venus called on lecturers and researchers in the field of communication to become the driving force behind humanity’s repositioning amid the growing dominance of AI.
“Today, algorithms are taking over human roles, shaping constructions of reality and even making life decisions,” said Anter Venus.
The Rector of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta highlighted current patterns of information consumption. He noted that people consume up to 34 gigabytes of information daily, spend approximately six hours on the internet, and devote 3.7 hours to social media screen time each day. AI penetration is highest among Generation Z at 43.7 percent, followed by millennials at 22.3 percent, out of Indonesia’s total social media user population of 180 million people.
“In the future, AI penetration is likely to continue increasing as humans continuously provide the data that algorithms require to replace human roles across various sectors of employment,” Anter Venus warned.
According to him, AI often operates excessively, beginning with information processing that may lead to misinformation, followed by disinformation, ultimately resulting in an infodemic — an overwhelming flood of information that can negatively affect human life. Therefore, communication professionals bear significant responsibility in ensuring that information circulating within society remains factual, ethical, and enlightening.
“In today’s digital and AI era, information is no longer merely a process of delivering messages, but has become an arena for the construction of reality,” said Anter Venus.
As a consequence of information overload, society is experiencing increasing pressure due to the relentless flow of digital content that is personal and interactive, yet largely controlled by algorithms. Based on these realities, Anter Venus stressed that repositioning human social life amid digitalization and AI has become increasingly urgent. Strengthening the human role, he concluded, can be achieved through improving digital literacy, reinforcing information verification skills, and prioritizing ethics in media engagement.
