EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – The Rector of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ), Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm, together with the university leadership team, conducted a faculty visit to the Faculty of Engineering at the Pondok Labu Campus in Jakarta on Friday, June 19, 2026. The visit aimed to directly assess the faculty’s performance, particularly in the areas of research, scientific publications, journal management, and institutional development. Through this initiative, UPNVJ is encouraging the Faculty of Engineering to further strengthen the quality of its research so that it not only grows in quantity but also delivers tangible benefits to society and industry.

According to the performance report presented during the visit, the Faculty of Engineering demonstrated a positive research trajectory throughout the 2021–2025 period. Research outputs, including patents and scientific journal publications, have become key indicators of the increasing academic productivity of faculty members and study programs within the faculty.

Positive developments were also reflected in the growing number of external research grant proposals and successful grant awards. This achievement demonstrates the increasing competitiveness of Faculty of Engineering academics in securing research funding from external sources while strengthening the faculty’s position within a more competitive research ecosystem.

Nevertheless, the evaluation identified several areas that require further improvement. These include a decline in the number of internal grant applications and approvals, delays in the completion of certain research outputs, and the need to strengthen entrepreneurship and the commercialization of research results.

The Rector emphasized that university research should be directed toward addressing the needs of society and industry. Therefore, research outcomes should not end with reports or publications but should be further developed into innovations, products, policy recommendations, or technological solutions that can be utilized more broadly.

“Research must have a clear direction. We are not merely pursuing numbers, but also quality, usefulness, and societal impact. The Faculty of Engineering has significant potential to generate innovations that are closely aligned with industrial needs and national development priorities,” said Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm.

In terms of publications, the Faculty of Engineering continues to strengthen its academic contribution through its various study programs, including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding Engineering. International publications produced by faculty members and researchers play an important role in enhancing UPNVJ’s academic reputation at both the national and global levels.

In addition to publications, the management of scientific journals was also a key focus of the evaluation. Several journals within the Faculty of Engineering were identified as requiring stronger governance, improved article quality, and more strategic accreditation efforts to enhance their competitiveness at the national and international levels.

UPNVJ also emphasized that strengthening research capacity must go hand in hand with expanding collaborative networks. Partnerships with industry, government agencies, professional communities, and academic institutions are considered essential strategies to ensure that research findings can be translated into programs, applied technologies, and community engagement models.

Through this faculty visit, the university leadership seeks to ensure that every faculty possesses a measurable development roadmap. Performance evaluations are intended not only to review achievements but also to identify challenges, formulate improvement strategies, and accelerate the attainment of institutional goals.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
