The invention, titled VetRescue MR: EcoFeline CPR Trainer – An Innovative Interactive Feline Resuscitation Model from Recycled Materials, was developed by Assistant Professor Dr. Pawana Chuesiri and her team at Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Veterinary Science. It received a gold medal and the SPECIAL AWARD – BEST ASIAN INVENTION, recognizing outstanding inventions from Asia.

The achievement highlights how innovation, technology, education, and a commitment to animal welfare can come together to advance veterinary training and create practical benefits for animal healthcare.

An Innovative Approach to Feline CPR Training
VetRescue MR is an interactive training system that combines anatomical knowledge, intelligent sensing technology, real-time performance assessment, and mixed reality (MR). It also incorporates recycled materials to create a realistic model for veterinary education, supporting animal welfare in accordance with the principles of the 3Rs: Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement.

The system was developed to address a critical challenge in feline cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Because cats have small and delicate chests, performing CPR requires a high degree of precision. Veterinary students therefore need opportunities to practice the procedure realistically, assess their performance, and receive immediate feedback.

Assistant Professor Dr. Pawana Chuesiri explained that the team designed the innovation as an interactive feline CPR training system made from recycled materials. It allows students to practice resuscitation techniques in a realistic and measurable environment without repeatedly using live animals for training.

Bringing Anatomy to Life Through Mixed Reality
A key feature of the system is its use of virtual reality (VR) headsets, which enable learners to visualize internal anatomical structures and observe simulated physiological effects inside a cat’s body while performing CPR.

At the same time, training results are displayed on a computer screen, allowing both students and instructors to monitor performance simultaneously. This real-time feedback helps learners understand the effects of their actions and identify areas for improvement.

By integrating immersive visualization with intelligent monitoring and performance evaluation, VetRescue MR transforms CPR training from a passive learning experience into an interactive, measurable, and engaging educational process.

The system also promotes sustainability by repurposing recycled materials into an educational tool, demonstrating how technology and resource efficiency can support the advancement of veterinary medicine while placing animal welfare at the forefront.

International Recognition for Veterinary Innovation
Winning the Gold Medal and the SPECIAL AWARD – BEST ASIAN INVENTION at INOVA 2026 marks a significant milestone for the Chulalongkorn University team. The awards recognize the innovation contribution to veterinary education and its potential to improve the way life-saving procedures are taught and practiced.

The achievement also demonstrates the growing potential of interdisciplinary collaboration, bringing together veterinary science, anatomical expertise, intelligent technologies, and interactive learning to develop practical solutions for animal healthcare.

Through VetRescue MR, the team has shown how an innovative training model can help prepare future veterinary professionals to perform critical procedures with greater understanding, precision, and confidence, while reducing the need to use live animals in repeated training exercises.
