EduAsiaNews, Lampung – The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at the University of Lampung (Unila) held an open doctoral promotion examination on Friday, 12 June 2026, at Aula K, FKIP Unila.

The doctoral promotion session was opened by Dr. Riswandi, M.Pd., serving as Chief Examiner and concurrently as Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Cooperation at FKIP Unila, accompanied by Dr. Handoko, S.T., M.Pd., as Secretary of the Examination Panel, Prof. Dr. Een Yayah Haenilah, M.Pd., as Principal Promotor, Dr. Mujiyati, M.Pd., as Co-Promotor I, and Dr. Muhammad Nur Wahidin, M.Ag., M.Si., as Co-Promotor II.

Also in attendance were Prof. Dr. Juntika Nurihsan, M.Pd., as External Examiner, Dr. Sumarti, S.Pd., M.Hum., as Internal Examiner, and Prof. Hasan Hariri, M.B.A., Ph.D., as Examiner.

On the occasion, Diah Utaminingsih successfully presented her dissertation entitled “Teaching Effectiveness Based on Teachers’ Psychological Characteristics.”

The research was motivated by the importance of identifying teachers’ psychological characteristics that contribute to learning effectiveness. Among the various psychological characteristics possessed by teachers, the study highlights three primary aspects: teacher self-efficacy, teacher engagement, and teacher well-being.

Teacher competency development has generally tended to focus on knowledge and skills, while the psychological aspects that support the implementation of learning have yet to receive adequate attention.

“Teachers not only require knowledge and skills, but also psychological support that can help them feel more confident, actively engaged, and a sense of well-being in carrying out the learning process,” she stated.

The research aims to construct a model of teaching effectiveness grounded in teachers’ psychological characteristics — encompassing teacher self-efficacy, teacher engagement, and teacher well-being — as well as to reconstruct the dimensions and indicators of psychological characteristics that contribute to learning effectiveness, with a view to producing a conceptual framework for teaching effectiveness based on these three characteristics.

In her research, Diah Utaminingsih employed an exploratory sequential mixed methods approach that integrates qualitative and quantitative methods. The study commenced with Focus Group Discussions (FGD) and exploratory discussions to identify needs and formulate indicators of teaching effectiveness. The resulting model was subsequently tested and validated through various statistical analyses, including Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS).

The findings indicate that teacher self-efficacy is the most dominant factor in enhancing teaching effectiveness, followed by teacher engagement. Meanwhile, teacher well-being plays a role in reinforcing both of these factors. These findings gave rise to the Teaching Effectiveness Assessment Framework (TEAF), which affirms the significance of teachers’ psychological characteristics in supporting learning effectiveness.

This research contributes to the advancement of educational science through the formulation of a conceptual framework for teaching effectiveness that may serve as a reference in teacher capacity development and the formulation of education policy.

Through this research, Unila continues to demonstrate its commitment to producing scholarship that is relevant to the needs of the educational world and to supporting the improvement of learning quality in Indonesia. [Intern — Yuki Azzahra / Asnia Sundari]
