EduAsiaNews, Bogor – The cost of higher education often remains the main reason many young Indonesians abandon their dreams of pursuing tertiary studies. Addressing this concern, IPB University reaffirmed its commitment that no student should drop out solely due to financial constraints.
This message was delivered directly by the Rector of IPB University, Dr. Alim Setiawan Slamet, as a concrete assurance of equal access to education for all.
“IPB University guarantees that there has never been a dropout caused by financial difficulties, as scholarship opportunities are widely available, with top priority given to students from underprivileged families,” stated Dr. Alim.
He emphasized an educational message to the public, encouraging optimism toward the future of education.
“We want to convey to the entire community that anyone can study at IPB University. Do not fear the cost, as there are numerous scholarships available to support students’ academic needs. IPB University firmly upholds the principle that no student should leave their studies due to financial reasons,” Dr. Alim added.
This commitment is not merely a promise; it is supported by substantial scholarship disbursement data. According to the 2025 scholarship recap, a total of IDR 141.72 billion was distributed.
Dr. Alim explained that the allocation of IPB University scholarships demonstrates a clear prioritization of economically disadvantaged students. In 2025, the majority of scholarship recipients—71.74% or 7,820 students—came from underprivileged backgrounds, receiving a total of IDR 98.69 billion.
Meanwhile, scholarships awarded for combined academic merit and financial need accounted for 11.47% (1,250 students) with funds totaling IDR 11.01 billion, and scholarships granted solely for academic merit made up 16.80% (1,831 students) with disbursements amounting to IDR 31.81 billion.
Dr. Alim further noted that opportunities remain open to expand merit-and-need-based scholarships through enhanced cooperation with non-governmental donors.
Additionally, IPB University affirms access to higher education for prospective students from disaster-affected regions such as Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. “We have established special admission pathways and scholarships for communities impacted by disasters in these three regions,” the Rector explained. Furthermore, he highlighted, “We manage a waqf deposit program, and the returns from the first and second waqf deposit installments have already been distributed.
