EduAsiaNews, Jakarta — The atmosphere on the third floor of the Faculty of Computer Science at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta (UPNVJ) suddenly came alive in the second week of December. The meeting room, usually used for routine coordination, was transformed into a laboratory of ideas. For four days, from December 8–11, 2025, lecturers from the D3 Information Systems, S1 Information Systems, and Data Science programs gathered with a single purpose: to hone their skills in writing reputable journals and explore opportunities for collaborative research.
The main guest was no ordinary academic. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yun Huoy Choo from Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) served as the driving force behind the workshop titled “International Journal Writing and Joint Research.” In the Southeast Asian research community, Choo is a well-known figure. He leads CIT LAB, a research group specializing in machine learning, data analytics, and artificial intelligence, with a track record of 67 publications and 697 citations.
Across four sessions—two in the morning (Monday and Wednesday) and two in the afternoon (Tuesday and Thursday)—Choo guided participants through the core of international publication: how to map novelty, interpret reviewer guidance, and prepare a strong article structure for reputable journals. During his presentations, he also opened discussions on potential joint research between UPNVJ and UTeM, particularly on smart computing topics, which have become the backbone of technological innovation.
The Dean of FIK UPNVJ, Dr. Supriyanto, M.T., described Choo’s presence as a strategic move. “This is part of our commitment to strengthening the tridharma, especially research and reputable publications. Lecturers must have access to global standards, not just local ones,” he said.
The goal is clear: this workshop is not merely a knowledge transfer, but a gateway to sustainable collaboration. From that FIK meeting room, UPNVJ aims higher—to foster a research culture and expand academic networks internationally. An ambition that is now receiving fresh momentum. (*)
