EduNewsAsia, Padang — Less than a week into December, Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) has already brought home good news from Malang. In the Indonesian Ship Contest (KKI) and the Abdidaya Student Organization (Ormawa) program, held from 4–6 December 2025 at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, the campus perched on the slopes of Mount Merapi succeeded in securing eight national awards at once.
The closing night, led by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., became a stage of recognition for hundreds of students and mentors from 93 universities. In his remarks, as quoted by tagarjatim.id, Fauzan described the event as a “strategic investment for the nation.” The Abdidaya Ormawa program, he said, proves that students are no longer confined to classroom learning but are directly driving change within communities.
“The entire process is carried out by the students themselves, from planning to implementation,” he said. “That is where its strategic value lies.”
In Padang, the news was warmly welcomed. UNP Rector Krismadinata, Ph.D., told the campus public relations team that this year’s achievements mark an important milestone, reflecting the consistent excellence of UNP students in national-level technology and community development competitions.
“Alhamdulillah, we have achieved many proud accomplishments,” he said. The eight awards include:
Second Best University – category of most active institution
Second Best Mentor – category of most active mentor (Siti Hajar Thaitami, S.St., M.Pd.)
Best Implementing Team 1 – category of best transformative change (UPKK)
Best Implementing Team 3 – category of most measurable sustainability planning (UKFF)
Best Video 4 – category of most innovative video (Biology Student Association)
Best Sustainability Partner 1 – category of most strategic sustainability support
Best Spirit of the Indonesian Ship Contest 2025
(Overall award for UNP’s active participation across both national competitions)
With 131 KKI teams and 119 Abdidaya Ormawa teams competing this year, the contest was fiercely competitive. Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) was crowned the overall champion of the 2025 Indonesian Ship Contest and Abdidaya Ormawa—an accolade that seems increasingly inseparable from the technology-focused institution.
For UNP, the eight awards represent more than a row of trophies. They signal the university’s growing position as a serious contender in maritime technology innovation and community empowerment. A small step from Malang, whose echo of achievement now resonates all the way to the coastlines of West Sumatra. (*)
