EduAsiaNews, Jakarta — The Research Ethics Committee (KEP) of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) strengthened the competence of researchers and healthcare professionals in implementing ethical principles and ensuring the quality of clinical trials through Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Training. The training was held at the Merce Building, UPNVJ Limo Campus, on Thursday–Friday (August 13–14, 2026). Carrying the theme “Strengthening Ethical Competence and Quality in Clinical Trial Implementation in Accordance with the ICH-GCP E6(R3) Standard,” the training was attended by 33 participants and organized in collaboration with the Jakarta Center for Health Training (BBPK Jakarta), Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. All participants who completed the two-day program successfully passed the training.

The training was part of KEP UPNVJ’s efforts to strengthen institutional capacity in responding to developments in health research governance, particularly following the international International Council for Harmonisation-Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP) guideline update from E6(R2) to E6(R3).

A total of 24 participants came from within UPNVJ, while the remaining nine participants were from outside the university. The learning process was integrated with the Ministry of Health’s Plataran Sehat Learning Management System (LMS), enabling eligible participants to receive recognition for professional competency development.

The program was officially opened by the Head of the UPNVJ Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), Sri Lestari Wahyuningroem, M.A., Ph.D., together with the Chair of the UPNVJ Research Ethics Committee, dr. Adi Sukrisno, Sp.OG., FMAS.

Adi emphasized that an understanding of GCP should not be regarded merely as a means of fulfilling administrative requirements in research. Rather, the principles serve as a foundation for ensuring that clinical research prioritizes the rights and safety of human participants while producing reliable and accountable research data.

“Understanding the principles of Good Clinical Practice is not merely about administrative compliance; it concerns respecting the dignity, safety, and well-being of research participants,” said Adi.

According to him, the training was designed to ensure that all parties involved in clinical trials at UPNVJ possess ethical and quality standards aligned with international practices. The collaboration with BBPK Jakarta also provided access to recognition in the form of Professional Credit Units (SKP) for participants from various healthcare professions.

“Through this training, we want to ensure that all parties involved in clinical trials at UPNVJ meet ethical and quality standards equivalent to international practices,” Adi said.

From Regulations to Case Report Form Simulation

Over the two-day program, participants not only studied the conceptual foundations of GCP but also engaged in case discussions and practical exercises directly related to the implementation of clinical research.

Four speakers participated in the training: Drs. Hary Wahyu T., Apt.; Prof. Nur Atik, dr., M.Kes., MOHRE., Ph.D.; Dr. Vycke Yunivita KD., dr., M.Kes.; and Harnawan Rizky, S.Si., MOHRE.

The training covered clinical trial regulations and guidelines, the division of responsibilities between researchers and sponsors, essential document management, the handling of adverse events, monitoring and auditing, as well as practical exercises in completing Case Report Forms (CRFs) through case studies.

This approach was intended to enable participants to translate GCP principles into research practice, from the planning and implementation stages to data recording, oversight, and the protection of research participants.

The BBPK Jakarta team also monitored the training to ensure that the learning process was conducted in accordance with applicable regulations and accreditation standards for health-sector training programs.

Under the program, participants who met the graduation requirements received three Professional Credit Units (SKP), equivalent to 13 Learning Hours (JPL). All 33 participants who completed the entire training program were declared to have passed and received certificates of completion.

Evaluation through the Plataran Sehat platform also indicated a positive response from participants. Based on 30 reviews submitted, the facilitators received a score of 4.76 out of 5, the learning modules received 4.86 out of 5, and the overall training implementation received 4.84 out of 5.

These results serve as an indicator that the training not only met participants’ needs for knowledge enhancement but was also relevant to their needs in conducting research and carrying out their professional responsibilities in the healthcare sector.

For KEP UPNVJ, strengthening GCP competence is part of efforts to develop a research ecosystem that integrates ethics, participant safety, data quality, and scientific accountability. This capacity is becoming increasingly important as health research continues to develop and opportunities expand for UPNVJ to participate in broader research collaborations.

Strengthening research capacity through internationally standardized training is also aligned with UPNVJ’s development direction under the leadership of Rector Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, M.A., Comm., particularly in improving research quality, strengthening research centers, expanding collaboration, and promoting professional university governance that meets international standards.

Through the strengthening of its Research Ethics Committee and the competencies of its researchers, UPNVJ aims to develop an increasingly credible and integrity-driven health research ecosystem capable of producing high-quality research while ensuring the protection of human beings as research participants.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
