EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Indonesia, Sergei Gennadievich Tolchenov, highlighted significant shifts in the global balance of power amid escalating conflict in the Middle East while serving as a speaker at the international seminar titled “Ambassador and Expert Talk: The Middle East Conflict and the Future of the Multipolar World” at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ), on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
In his presentation, Sergei explained that the dynamics of the Middle East conflict reflect a major transformation in the global order, moving from unipolar dominance toward an increasingly multipolar system. He noted that current geopolitical developments demonstrate that international relations are no longer determined by a single center of power, but rather by increasingly complex interactions among regions and states.
The Russian Ambassador also emphasized the importance of respecting state sovereignty and the principle of non-intervention in maintaining global stability. According to him, unilateral approaches in international relations risk escalating tensions and complicating the resolution of ongoing conflicts.
In addition, Sergei underscored the growing role of countries outside the Western bloc in shaping a new global architecture. This shift, he argued, is evident in the strengthening of multilateral cooperation, the emergence of new strategic alliances, and the increasing influence of non-Western countries in determining the direction of global affairs.
In the context of the conflict involving Iran, he assessed that the escalation cannot be separated from broader global political dynamics, including geopolitical and economic interests among states. Therefore, understanding the Middle East conflict requires not only a regional perspective but also consideration of broader changes in the global power structure.
The seminar also featured the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, as well as international academic Tim Anderson, as speakers. Their presence enriched the forum with both diplomatic and academic perspectives on the impact of the Middle East conflict on the formation of a multipolar world order.
For UPNVJ, the organization of this seminar reaffirms the university’s commitment to providing an international dialogue platform that remains relevant to global developments.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
