EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – The Faculty of Engineering at the National Development University “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) held the International Conference on Engineering Applications for Defense Technology (ICEATech 2026) in Jakarta from Nov. 2 to 4, 2026.

Concluding on Wednesday (Nov. 4), the conference served as a platform for knowledge exchange and international research collaboration in defense technology engineering. Through the event, UPNVJ sought to encourage academics, researchers and industry practitioners to contribute to technological innovations that support Indonesia’s defense independence.

ICEATech 2026 was organized in response to global technological developments that are increasingly shaping defense and security systems. Advances in artificial intelligence, manufacturing technology, autonomous systems and renewable energy are creating new opportunities to develop defense technologies that are more adaptive, efficient and sustainable.

UPNVJ Faculty of Engineering Dean Prof. Teguh Firmansyah, who holds a doctorate in engineering and several professional engineering qualifications, served as one of the conference’s steering committee members. The event aligns with the faculty’s development agenda to become an outstanding and innovative higher education institution in technology, with global competitiveness and a strong national defense identity.

The conference brought together academics, researchers, technology experts and industry practitioners to discuss the latest developments in engineering applications for the defense sector. It also aimed to expand academic networks and create opportunities for research collaboration among universities, research institutions and the defense industry.

ICEATech 2026 focused on three major fields representing advances in modern engineering technology.

The first, Advanced Manufacturing and Materials, focused on the development of advanced manufacturing technologies and materials for defense applications. Topics included three-dimensional printing, composite materials, ballistic protection, nanotechnology and the development of high-strength materials.

The second, Automation, Control, and Intelligent Systems, explored the application of automation, control systems and intelligent technologies. Key topics included unmanned vehicles, artificial intelligence for threat detection, avionics systems, robotics and cyber-physical security.

The third, Energy, Environment, and Sustainable Engineering, focused on energy technology and sustainable engineering. Discussions covered renewable energy utilization, energy storage technologies, waste management in the defense industry and environmentally friendly technological innovations.

Together, these three fields highlight that defense technology development involves more than strengthening security capabilities. It also encompasses resource efficiency, environmental sustainability and the application of cutting-edge technologies.

Beyond providing a platform for research dissemination, ICEATech 2026 is expected to foster international collaboration networks that can accelerate knowledge exchange and innovation. The scientific discussions are also expected to contribute strategic recommendations for future defense technology development.

The conference forms part of the Faculty of Engineering’s efforts to strengthen its research culture, increase publications in reputable international journals and expand partnerships with various stakeholders.

In line with efforts to strengthen the three pillars of higher education—education, research and community service—the event also supports UPNVJ’s commitment under Acting Rector Nur Syarifah to promote higher education focused on academic quality, collaboration and tangible contributions to national interests.

Through ICEATech 2026, UPNVJ aims to further strengthen its role as a university with a national defense identity, contributing to scientific advancement, technological development and Indonesia’s defense independence.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
