EduAsiaNews, Purwakerto – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed), in collaboration with the National Research and Innovation Agency’s (BRIN) Center for Climate and Atmospheric Research (PRIMA), held a partnership discussion at the FMIPA Unsoed meeting room on the first floor on Monday (Oct. 12, 2026).

The meeting discussed the development of an atmospheric information system and a precision landslide early warning system for the Serayu Watershed in Central Java and surrounding areas, as part of efforts to support research-based disaster mitigation.

The event was attended by Unsoed Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Suroso, S.T., M.Eng., IPU.; the dean of FMIPA and faculty leadership; Unsoed Director of Graduate Studies Prof. Dr. Asif Awaludin, M.T.; and Ir. Halumurrahman, M.T., head of BRIN’s Serayu Project Cooperation Team and leader of the team developing a precision landslide early warning system for the Serayu Watershed and surrounding areas. Representatives from BRIN, the regional disaster management agencies (BPBDs) of Banyumas, Banjarnegara, Cilacap and Purbalingga regencies, the Cilacap Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), and the Serayu River Basin Organization (BBWS) also attended.

In his remarks, Unsoed Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Suroso expressed hope that the collaboration would proceed smoothly, meet its established targets and deliver tangible benefits to all parties involved.

“We hope this research will proceed smoothly and achieve its established targets, maximizing its impact for Unsoed, BRIN and surrounding communities. We also hope that downstreaming the research findings will open up opportunities for the next stages of development, allowing the benefits to reach a wider audience,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ir. Halumurrahman, who represented the head of BRIN’s PRIMA, emphasized the importance of research collaboration in generating innovations that can be applied to support disaster prevention and mitigation.

“BRIN hopes this collaboration will produce research and innovations that deliver tangible benefits to the public, particularly in supporting disaster prevention and mitigation efforts. Through collaboration with Unsoed and other stakeholders, the research findings are expected to be developed into practical solutions,” he said.

The discussion was then led by Prof. Jamrud Aminuddin, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., with participation from various stakeholders, including representatives of the four regencies’ BPBDs, BMKG Cilacap and BBWS Serayu. Discussions focused on developing an atmospheric information system, identifying data and information needs for environmental monitoring, and strengthening the precision landslide early warning system in the Serayu Watershed and surrounding areas.

The involvement of BPBDs and related agencies was essential to aligning research development with on-the-ground needs. The discussion also provided a forum for exchanging information on disaster mitigation challenges and exploring opportunities to integrate research findings into regional preparedness and disaster risk reduction efforts.

At the close of the event, FMIPA Unsoed Dean Prof. Drs. Budi Pratikno, M.Stat.Sci., Ph.D., expressed hope that collaboration among Unsoed, BRIN and the BPBDs would continue to grow through sustained partnerships.

“We hope cooperation among Unsoed, BRIN and the BPBDs will continue to develop and produce beneficial outcomes. We expect this synergy to extend beyond research activities and deliver a positive impact on communities, particularly by improving preparedness and reducing disaster risks,” he said.

Through this discussion, Unsoed and BRIN are expected to strengthen research collaboration with local governments and relevant technical agencies, enabling the development of atmospheric information systems and precision landslide early warning systems to support decision-making and more effective disaster mitigation across the Serayu Watershed and surrounding areas.
