EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) continues to strengthen its commitment to accelerating internationalization by expanding its network of partnerships with educational and cultural institutions worldwide. As part of this effort, a UNJ delegation attended an invitation from Russian House on Friday, July 3, 2026, to discuss scholarship opportunities offered by the Russian Government, as well as to explore various forms of strategic cooperation in higher education, research, academic exchange, and language and cultural development.
This meeting marked an important step in expanding access for UNJ’s academic community to international education opportunities while strengthening institutional relations between UNJ and universities in Russia. In addition to discussing scholarship programs, both parties also explored potential collaborations that could be realized through university-to-university cooperation.
The UNJ delegation was led by the Vice Rector for Cooperation and Business, Andy Hadiyanto, accompanied by Vice Deans for Research, Innovation, Information Systems, and Cooperation from various faculties, along with UNJ’s international cooperation team. The delegation’s presence demonstrated UNJ’s earnest commitment to building global collaborations capable of delivering tangible benefits for students, lecturers, education staff, and the institution as a whole.
In its presentation, Russian House introduced various scholarship programs provided by the Russian Government for international students to pursue undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral studies at leading universities in Russia. These programs cover a wide range of academic disciplines with competitive funding support and opportunities to gain learning experience within an international academic environment.
In addition to student scholarships, Russian House also presented various fellowship and capacity-building programs for lecturers, researchers, and academics. These programs are designed to promote research collaboration, enhance academic competencies, facilitate knowledge exchange, and strengthen scientific networks between Indonesian and Russian higher education institutions.
The discussion took place in a warm and productive atmosphere. Various technical aspects were discussed in depth, ranging from participant selection mechanisms and registration processes to funding coverage and opportunities for joint program implementation that could be realized in the near future. Both parties also exchanged views on potential short-term and long-term collaborations capable of delivering positive impacts on the development of higher education in both countries.
Russian House expressed its commitment to facilitating communication and building connectivity between UNJ and various universities in Russia through a university-to-university cooperation scheme. This facilitation is expected to serve as a gateway for the emergence of various collaborative programs, such as student and lecturer exchanges, joint research, international conferences, collaborative scientific publications, and the development of curricula and academic programs relevant to global needs.
Beyond receiving cooperation opportunities, UNJ also offered active contributions toward strengthening Indonesia–Russia academic relations. One initiative put forward was the development of Indonesian language learning at Russian universities through a lecturer exchange program. This step is expected to expand Indonesia’s language and cultural diplomacy while enhancing the Russian public’s understanding of Indonesia.
In addition, UNJ also opened opportunities for Russian students to learn the Indonesian language through the Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers Program (BIPA), which has long been one of the university’s flagship programs. Through this program, international students not only gain language competency but also obtain direct experience getting to know Indonesian culture, values, and diversity as part of educational diplomacy.
UNJ’s Vice Rector for Cooperation and Business, Andy Hadiyanto, stated that this exploration of cooperation represents a strategic step in expanding international networks while opening up more opportunities for competency development among UNJ’s academic community.
“UNJ remains committed to building global partnerships that provide tangible benefits for students, lecturers, and the institution. Through the communication established with Russian House, we hope that more members of UNJ’s academic community will be able to access international scholarships, participate in academic exchange programs, conduct collaborative research, and build global networks that will strengthen the competitiveness of both our graduates and our institution at the international level,” said Andy.
He added that cooperation with various universities in Russia is also expected to enrich UNJ’s academic ecosystem through the exchange of ideas, experiences, and best practices in the delivery of higher education.
