EduAsiaNews, Semarang — Universitas Semarang (USM) and the Central Java Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Jateng) are strengthening multi-stakeholder collaboration to promote sustainable economic development through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) titled Central Java Green Industry Initiative: Developing the Roadmap for Sustainable Industrial Growth. The forum, which featured Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) Dr. Eddy Soeparno, provided a strategic platform for developing an initial framework for the Central Java Green Industry Roadmap, emphasizing meaningful participation from a broad range of stakeholders.
The FGD addressed several strategic issues concerning industrial and economic development in Central Java, particularly investment, economic growth, energy demand, and renewable energy development. The discussion was aimed at building an industrial ecosystem capable of achieving sustainable growth while remaining competitive amid future economic dynamics.
Eddy Soeparno: Central Java Has Strong Potential for Green Industrial Growth
Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI Dr. Mohammad Eddy Dwiyanto Soeparno, S.H., M.H., said the discussion was productive because it not only brought together perspectives from speakers but also provided participants with ample opportunities to share their views and raise issues encountered in the field.
He said the input gathered during the forum could serve as a basis for further consideration and analysis, particularly in determining follow-up measures related to investment, energy needs, renewable energy development, and efforts to strengthen economic growth in Central Java.
“Alhamdulillah, we have concluded today’s discussion. It was highly productive. First, we discussed investment and economic growth, particularly in Central Java,” Eddy said.
Eddy expressed hope that the forum would lead to concrete follow-up actions rather than remain limited to discussion. He also suggested that similar forums could be held in other regions, taking into account their respective characteristics and potential.
According to Eddy, Central Java has considerable potential, particularly in manufacturing, energy infrastructure, and human resources. These strengths could serve as important foundations for increasing productivity and developing industrial areas, while also creating opportunities for new policy and regulatory initiatives to support regional economic growth.
USM Highlights the Importance of the Green Economy
USM Rector Dr. Supari, S.T., M.T., said the forum was an important initiative for examining the development of the green economy alongside industrial growth in Central Java and Indonesia more broadly. He emphasized that the transition toward a green economy should take into account Indonesia’s significant potential and optimize its available resources to support development.
“This activity is one of our most important agendas. We are looking at how the green economy is developing alongside industrial growth. Industry in Central Java and Indonesia is one of the key parameters of our development,” he said.
Supari stressed that greater attention to the green economy is needed to contribute to the acceleration of national development. In this context, the involvement of various stakeholders is essential, including universities, which can contribute academic perspectives and expertise while providing a space for dialogue to generate relevant development strategies.
“All these efforts are part of USM’s contribution to advancing national development,” he said.
USM’s participation in the forum further reinforces the role of higher education institutions as part of a development ecosystem that brings together academia, the business sector, and policymakers. Through collaboration and the exchange of ideas, USM seeks to contribute to addressing development challenges, including the development of a more sustainable and competitive industrial sector.
The Central Java Green Industry Initiative is expected to contribute to the process of formulating a green industry roadmap for Central Java while opening opportunities for more concrete follow-up initiatives through collaboration among stakeholders.
