EduAsiaNews, Lampung – Universitas Lampung (Unila) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), accompanied by a collaborative discussion session, on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the Main Conference Room on the second floor of the Unila Rectorate Building.
The event was attended by the Head of BRIN, Prof. Dr. Arif Satria, S.P., M.Si.; the Rector of Unila, Prof. Dr. Ir. Lusmeilia Afriani, D.E.A., IPM., ASEAN Eng.; BRIN Deputy for Science and Technology Human Resources, Edy Giri Rachman Putra, Ph.D.; as well as members of Unila’s leadership, including the Chair of the Academic Senate, Vice Rectors, Deans, Heads of Institutes, and Professors.
In her presentation, Prof. Lusmeilia reaffirmed Unila’s Vision 2045 of becoming a world-class university that is both excellent and sustainable. One of the university’s flagship research priorities is the Cassava Centre, considering that Lampung is Indonesia’s largest cassava-producing region.
The research initiative extends beyond agriculture and involves multidisciplinary collaboration across fields such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Law, and Economics and Business. The objective is to develop high-quality cassava-based products with strong global competitiveness.
“Unila’s three main pillars of strength are its substantial human resources, strong academic and scientific expertise, and a promising balance in gender representation,” said Prof. Lusmeilia.
The proposal to establish the Cassava Research Collaboration Center (PKR Cassava) received immediate support from the Head of BRIN. Prof. Arif encouraged Unila to prepare a comprehensive proposal capable of generating tangible impact.
“Focus on a single topic, but make it comprehensive and impactful. PKR Cassava represents a new dimension for BRIN,” he emphasized.
Prof. Arif also highlighted BRIN’s strategic direction in advancing research and innovation to enhance the productivity of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), strengthen the national private industrial sector, and facilitate the co-development of advanced global technologies for adoption in Indonesia.
It is hoped that the outcomes of this MoU will be promptly followed up through the establishment of a research collaboration center between BRIN and Unila, fostering impactful innovation and sustainable development.
