EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – A solemn atmosphere filled the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Auditorium as Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) officially inaugurated Prof. Dianwicaksih Arieftiara, S.E., Ak., M.Ak., CA., CSRS as Professor in the field of Sustainability Accounting on Tuesday, April 8, 2026. This moment not only marked the highest academic achievement for Prof. Dian, but also reaffirmed UPNVJ’s commitment to strengthening scholarly contributions relevant to sustainability issues amid the challenges of the ecological crisis.

The inauguration took place at the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Auditorium and was officiated directly by the Rector of UPNVJ, Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, M.A., Comm. In his remarks, Prof. Venus expressed his appreciation for Prof. Dian’s achievement in attaining the highest academic rank at a relatively young age.
“Praise be to God, today we inaugurate a Professor who is relatively young for the standard age of Professors at UPNVJ. This is remarkable. We extend our congratulations to Prof. Dianwicaksih Arieftiara, S.E., Ak., M.Ak., CA., CSRS in the field of Sustainability Accounting,” he stated.

This achievement is regarded as a manifestation of scholarly commitment and perseverance in pursuing an academic career. Prof. Venus also encouraged lecturers within UPNVJ to develop academic career roadmaps to attain the rank of Professor.

Furthermore, Prof. Venus emphasized that a university is a scholarly community that serves as a center for the development of knowledge and civilization.
“Higher education institutions are spaces where ideas and innovations are born. Professors hold a strategic responsibility in upholding the dignity of academic institutions while fostering a strong academic culture,” he asserted.

On this proud occasion, Prof. Venus also highlighted five principal roles of a Professor: contributing to academic reputation through scientific publications and citations; serving as a role model in the implementation of the tridharma of higher education; building scholarly networks and mentoring junior faculty members; internalizing the university’s core values; and strengthening pedagogical, social, and personal competencies.

Prior to the ceremonial bestowal of the Professorial sash, Prof. Dian delivered a scientific oration titled “State Defense Based on Sustainability: From Symbolic ESG Reporting to Substantive ESG Reporting in the Era of Indonesia’s Ecological Crisis” before invited guests. The oration was driven by concerns over the increasing ecological degradation in Indonesia, which does not always align with corporate sustainability reporting practices.

Prof. Dian raised critical questions regarding the function of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reports—whether they truly serve as instruments of accountability or merely as symbolic legitimacy. She emphasized that sustainability accounting plays a crucial role in ensuring transparency, accountability, and the reliability of information through proper measurement, honest disclosure, and independent assurance mechanisms.

Moreover, she positioned sustainability issues as part of the broader concept of state defense. In the context of Indonesia, a country rich in natural resources yet vulnerable to ecological crises, maintaining sound environmental and social governance is viewed as a collective responsibility for the nation’s sustainability.

This inauguration marks an important milestone for UPNVJ in strengthening its academic contributions in the field of sustainability accounting, while also encouraging higher education institutions to take an active role in addressing both global and national challenges.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
