EduAsiaNews, Jakarta — Prof. Dr. Mikihiro Moriyama from Nanzan University presented strategies for academic writing during the International Visiting Professor program at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), UPN Veteran Jakarta, on Monday, March 30. The event was attended by the Rector, the Rector’s spouse, FISIP deans, and the faculty academic community.
During the event, Prof. Mikihiro emphasized that international publication requires methodological precision and a deep understanding of global standards. Writing articles that can be accepted internationally demands diligence and discipline.
In addition to the seminar, an Implementation Agreement (IA) was signed between FISIP UPNVJ and Nanzan University, reinforcing bilateral academic collaboration.
The Rector of UPNVJ, Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, M.A.Comm, in his remarks, appreciated the presence of this Indonesian Studies expert as an effort to enhance the research quality of both faculty and students.
In his presentation, Prof. Mikihiro Moriyama explained that the key to successful publication in reputable journals lies in the novelty of the argument and the strength of the data presented. He stressed the importance of researchers not only describing phenomena but also providing critical analysis that contributes to existing theory.
“Researchers must be able to convince editors and reviewers that their articles possess strong originality and significance for a global readership,” Prof. Mikihiro stated while explaining the international journal selection process. He also highlighted technical aspects such as consistent referencing and the use of up-to-date literature as non-negotiable minimum standards.
The material also addressed sociolinguistic and cultural aspects of writing, emphasizing that researchers must present ideas objectively and systematically. The strategies shared included selecting the right journal, understanding the peer-review process, and responding to reviewer critiques with solid arguments.
This event is expected to serve as a catalyst for FISIP UPNVJ faculty and students to engage more actively in international research collaboration, particularly following the IA signing. The synergy between FISIP UPNVJ and Nanzan University is projected to open opportunities for more intensive knowledge exchange in the fields of social and political sciences.
By understanding international standards directly from a practitioner, technical barriers in journal writing are expected to be minimized. The program concluded with an interactive session with students and a group photo.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
