EduAsiaNews, Surabaya – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) professor and Vice President of the Council of Asian Science Editors (CASE), Prof. Ferry Efendi, S.Kep., Ns., M.Sc., Ph.D., successfully led the 2026 CASE Webinar, titled “Journal Publishing Models for the Future,” held on Friday, October 23, 2026.

Amid the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and the rapid expansion of Open Science, Prof. Ferry played a central role in moderating cross-border discussions involving publishing experts and journal managers from South Korea to Japan. The international forum attracted more than 230 participants from 10 countries, approximately 60 percent of whom were Indonesian journal managers, researchers, and academics.

Bridging Asia’s Digital Publishing Transformation

As a CASE executive, Prof. Ferry not only moderated the webinar, which featured Dr. Tae-Sul Seo of South Korea, Tomoko Yamanojo-Childress of Taylor & Francis Japan, and Prof. Han Woo Park of Yeungnam University, but also helped connect discussions on critical issues shaping the future of the global research ecosystem.

One of the key points he emphasized was the importance of upholding ethical standards and human judgment amid the rapid digitalization of scholarly publishing. He stressed that no matter how advanced artificial intelligence becomes, academic integrity must remain at the heart of scholarly publishing.

“The future of journal publishing will become increasingly open and digital. However, quality, integrity, and human judgment will remain central to the work of editors, reviewers, and authors,” Prof. Ferry said.

His remarks offered an important message to journal editors, particularly in developing countries, urging them not to be dazzled by technological advances but to maintain rigorous scientific verification and validation.

Indonesian Journals Move Toward Global Standards

Prof. Ferry viewed the strong participation from Indonesia as a positive sign, reflecting the growing commitment of the country’s journal managers to adapt to global standards.

“The large number of participants from Indonesia shows that journal contributors in the country are beginning to understand the importance of journals for the future,” he added.

Through his active involvement in international organizations such as CASE, Prof. Ferry hopes to raise UNAIR’s profile while helping Indonesian journals transform responsibly. He believes international forums should serve as shared learning spaces that strengthen the capabilities of local editors, enabling them to compete and gain recognition on the global stage.
