EduAsiaNews, Jakarta — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) held the first day of its 2026 Political Movement School (Sekolah Politik Pergerakan, or SPP) at the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Auditorium on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026.

The event aimed to strengthen political literacy, develop leadership character, and raise students’ awareness of their social responsibilities and the principles of democracy. Through discussions with legislators, researchers and student organization activists, participants were encouraged to explore how leadership grounded in integrity can be translated into concrete action in society.

Under the theme “Building Student Leadership with Integrity and the Ability to Create Meaningful Change Through the Spirit of Bela Negara,” SPP 2026 served as a political learning forum emphasizing critical thinking, the courage to express ideas, and concern for public issues.

The event, held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. local time, was attended by members of the UPNVJ FISIP Student Association. The forum gave students an opportunity to broaden their understanding of Indonesia’s sociopolitical dynamics while discussing the role of young people in promoting constructive social change.

Bringing Together Legislators, Researchers and Student Organization Activists

The 2026 Political Movement School featured three speakers from different professional backgrounds: Dr. Hj. Netty Prasetiyani, S.S., M.Si., deputy chair of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction at the House of Representatives (DPR); Teddy Chrisprimate Putra, S.T., M.Sos., a researcher at CCHRS; and Zufar Hafiz, national coordinator of the Indonesian Association of Social and Political Science Student Organizations (ILMISPI).

The speakers’ diverse backgrounds were a key strength of the event. Perspectives from the legislature, research community and student organizations gave participants an opportunity to understand the relationship between political processes, academic inquiry and social movements in a democratic society.

Through these discussions, students were encouraged to view politics not merely as a process of competing for or exercising power, but also as a means of advancing the public interest, fostering dialogue and finding solutions to societal challenges.

Discussions on transformative leadership and social advocacy also played an important role in strengthening participants’ capabilities. Students were expected to develop their ability to analyze issues, express aspirations responsibly and collaborate with various stakeholders.

Strengthening Student Leadership Grounded in Bela Negara

The 2026 Political Movement School also emphasized the values of Bela Negara as a foundation for developing students’ leadership character. In campus life, these values can be reflected in academic integrity, social awareness, respect for differing opinions and active participation in democratic processes.

This approach highlights that student leadership development requires more than public speaking skills or the ability to manage organizations. Leaders must also be sensitive to social issues, make ethical decisions and be willing to take responsibility for their actions.

Through the Political Movement School, UPNVJ’s FISIP seeks to create a learning environment that connects academic knowledge with sociopolitical practice. The event also provides a platform for strengthening a culture of discussion and the exchange of ideas among students.

The SPP 2026 program is scheduled to continue on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, from 7 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. at Rooms 301–303, Building B of UPNVJ’s Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. The second-day session will build on the learning process by deepening participants’ understanding of leadership, sociopolitical issues and advocacy.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
