EduAsiaNews, Philippines – The University of the Philippines was recognized by the Teacher Education Council as one of the five National Teacher Education Centers of Excellence as part of this year’s celebration of National Teachers’ Month.

UP President Angelo Jimenez received the recognition during the awarding ceremonies held last Sept. 30 at the Manila Hotel.

Under Republic Act No. 11713 or the Excellence in Teacher Education Act of 2022, the designation of Centers of Excellence aims to strengthen teacher education and training programs, facilitate collaborative research on identified areas for systematic investigation in teacher education, encourage mutual support and mentorship between teacher education institutions, and improve the overall quality of teacher education in the country.

Teacher Education Centers of Excellence are identified by the TEC through the excellence and qualifications of an institution’s faculty, the selection of students who manifest the talent and commitment for teaching, the adequacy of an institution’s research facilities and student services, the competence of its administrative and support staff, innovation in curriculum development, and relevant extension services and linkages, among others.
