EduAsiaNews, Jakarta — The Rector Election of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) for the 2026–2030 term has entered its final stage. Three rector candidates who passed the nomination and screening stages officially received their candidate numbers following a drawing held in a hybrid format at the Nusantara 1 Meeting Room on Tuesday (Oct. 6, 2026).
The drawing resulted in Prof. Dr. Drs. Anter Venus, M.A.Comm. being assigned candidate number 1, Prof. Dr. Memen Kustiawan, S.E., M.Si., M.H. receiving number 2, and Prof. Dr. Drs. Abdul Halim, S.H., M.Ag. receiving number 3.
The assignment of candidate numbers marks one of the indications that the UPNVJ Rector Election is approaching its final decision-making stage. The three candidates will subsequently proceed through a series of stages leading to the third closed session of the UPNVJ Senate, in accordance with the established mechanism and coordination with the ministry.
Silvia Anggraeni, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., chair of the UPNVJ Rector Election Committee for the 2026–2030 term, explained that the election process had gone through a lengthy series of stages, beginning with the nomination of six prospective candidates and eventually narrowing the field to three rector candidates.
“We have now reached the rector election stage. Previously, we had gone through the nomination and screening stages,” Silvia said.
The nomination stage was initially contested by six prospective candidates. Following a closed session of the UPNVJ Senate on July 15, 2026, four prospective candidates were selected to continue in the process. The four then took part in a candidate number draw before presenting their visions, missions and work programs on July 30, 2026.
On the same day, the UPNVJ Senate held another closed session, which resulted in three rector candidates: Prof. Dr. Memen Kustiawan, S.E., M.Si., M.H.; Prof. Dr. Drs. Abdul Halim, S.H., M.Ag.; and Prof. Dr. Drs. Anter Venus, M.A.Comm.
Upon entering the election stage, the three candidates once again took part in a drawing to obtain their final candidate numbers, which will be used in the subsequent stages of the process.
“There are now three rector candidates who do not yet have candidate numbers. So today, we are conducting the candidate number draw for the UPNVJ Rector Election for the 2026–2030 term,” Silvia explained.
The drawing was conducted openly, transparently and objectively and could be witnessed by all rector candidates and participants in attendance. The process was conducted online using the Spinwheel application as a tool to randomly determine the candidates’ numbers.
The drawing mechanism consisted of two stages. The first stage determined which rector candidate would take a turn, while the second stage determined the candidate number assigned to that candidate. Through this mechanism, all candidates were given an equal opportunity in the drawing process.
Silvia emphasized that the assignment of candidate numbers was not merely a formality but part of an administrative procedure to ensure transparency throughout the UPNVJ Rector Election process.
“These candidate numbers are essentially part of an administrative procedure to maintain transparency,” she said.
Following the drawing, Silvia said the entire process had proceeded smoothly and expressed hope that it would provide a solid foundation for the subsequent stages.
“Alhamdulillah, today we successfully conducted the drawing of candidate numbers for the UPNVJ Rector Election for the 2026–2030 term, and the process went smoothly. Hopefully, it will bring good things for everyone,” she said.
“Hopefully, this will contribute positively to the next stages, namely the rector candidate interviews, followed by the third closed session of the UPNVJ Senate, which will determine who will become the elected rector for the 2026–2030 term,” Silvia continued.
Meanwhile, UPNVJ Senate Chair Dr. Irsyaf Marsal, M.H., said UPNVJ continued to coordinate with the ministry regarding the subsequent stages, including the rector candidate interviews and the schedule for the election.
“We have reached the rector election stage after the nomination and screening stages. We continue to coordinate with the ministry,” Irsyaf said.
He explained that the candidate number draw was conducted in advance as a precautionary measure to prevent the rector election stages from becoming too close to the final deadline of Oct. 24, 2026.
“The candidate number draw was indeed necessary. We were concerned that the timing would be too close to the election, considering that the rector election process will conclude on Oct. 24. We are taking precautions by conducting the drawing first,” he explained.
Irsyaf emphasized that the entire process would continue to be reported to and coordinated with the ministry to ensure that the rector election proceeds in accordance with applicable procedures and regulations.
With the three candidates now officially assigned their numbers, the UPNVJ Rector Election for the 2026–2030 term has entered a crucial phase leading toward the final decision-making stage. All subsequent stages will proceed in accordance with the established mechanism and the results of coordination with the ministry.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
