EduAsiaNews, Jakarta — The chair of the Rector Election Committee for the 2026–2030 term at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ), Silvia Anggraeni, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., emphasized that the drawing of candidate numbers is an important administrative procedure aimed at maintaining transparency throughout the UPNVJ rector election process.

Silvia made the statement during the drawing of candidate numbers for the UPNVJ rector election for the 2026–2030 term, which was held in a hybrid format at the Nusantara 1 Meeting Room on Tuesday (Oct. 6, 2026).

“The candidate numbers are essentially part of an administrative procedure to maintain transparency,” Silvia said.

She said the drawing marked the UPNVJ rector election’s transition into the election stage after the process had previously gone through the nomination and screening stages.

Silvia explained that six prospective rector candidates were initially identified during the nomination stage. The process then continued with a closed session of the UPNVJ Senate on July 15, 2026, which selected four prospective candidates to proceed to the screening stage.

Before entering that stage, the Rector Election Committee held a drawing for the numbers of the four prospective candidates on July 21, 2026. The numbers were subsequently used during the presentation of the prospective rector candidates’ visions, missions and work programs on July 30, 2026.

On the same day, the UPNVJ Senate held its second closed session, narrowing the four prospective candidates down to three rector candidates: Prof. Dr. Memen Kustiawan, S.E., M.Si., M.H.; Prof. Dr. Drs. Abdul Halim, S.H., M.Ag.; and Prof. Dr. Drs. Anter Venus, M.A.Comm.

“After the nomination and screening stages, we have now reached the rector election stage. Before the Senate holds its third closed session, the three rector candidates must have candidate numbers. Therefore, today we are conducting the drawing of candidate numbers for the UPNVJ Rector Election for the 2026–2030 term,” Silvia explained.

She said candidate numbers could be determined through two mechanisms: a decision made at a University Senate meeting or a drawing facilitated by the Rector Election Committee. For the current UPNVJ rector election, the committee opted for the drawing mechanism.

The drawing was conducted online, taking into consideration that not all of the rector candidates reside in Jakarta and its surrounding areas.

According to Silvia, a similar mechanism has also been used in rector elections at other higher education institutions. However, UPNVJ adjusted its implementation to the circumstances of the candidates and the requirements of the process to ensure that it remained open, effective and transparent.

The drawing resulted in Prof. Dr. Drs. Anter Venus, M.A.Comm. being assigned candidate number 1; Prof. Dr. Memen Kustiawan, S.E., M.Si., M.H. receiving number 2; and Prof. Dr. Drs. Abdul Halim, S.H., M.Ag. receiving number 3.

Following the drawing, Silvia expressed her gratitude for the smooth conduct of the process.

“Alhamdulillah, today we successfully conducted the drawing of candidate numbers for the UPNVJ Rector Election for the 2026–2030 term, and the process went smoothly. Hopefully, it will bring good things for everyone,” she said.

She added that the results of the drawing would be used in the subsequent stages leading to the appointment of the UPNVJ Rector for the 2026–2030 term.

“Hopefully, these results will contribute positively to the next stages, namely the rector candidate interviews and the third closed session of the UPNVJ Senate, which will determine who will become the elected rector for the 2026–2030 term,” Silvia concluded.

With the numbers assigned to the three candidates, the UPNVJ Rector Election for the 2026–2030 term will proceed to the next stage in accordance with the established mechanism.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
