EduAsiaNews, Riau — As part of efforts to educate university students about the downstream oil and gas sector, Universitas Riau (Unri), in collaboration with the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas), held the BPH Migas Goes to Campus program under the theme “Gen-Z Talks: Targeted Subsidies for Eligible Communities.”
Representing the rector, Unri Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Information Systems Dr. Ir. Sofyan Husein Siregar, M.Phil., officially opened the event on Wednesday (Sept. 30) at the Kampar Theater, Integrated Classroom Building, Unri.
In his remarks, Dr. Sofyan Husein Siregar said the event served as a forum for dialogue and education between Unri and BPH Migas on the provision and distribution of fuel and natural gas.
“Through this event, students have an opportunity to broaden their knowledge and gain a better understanding of policies governing the provision and distribution of fuel,” he said.
BPH Migas Committee Member Arief Wardono provided a more detailed overview of the downstream oil and gas industry.
“The function of BPH Migas is to oversee the provision and distribution of fuel and natural gas, as well as to regulate these activities to ensure that their availability and distribution are maintained throughout the territory of the Republic of Indonesia,” he said.
The event also featured Windrian Kurniawan, vice president of retail fuel sales at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, who discussed subsidies and government-assigned fuel programs, as well as regulations that have shaped Pertamina’s role in Indonesia’s oil and gas industry, from regulator and operator to resource custodian and manager.
The event was attended by around 300 participants, predominantly students. Faculty, unit and institutional leaders, as well as lecturers from across Unri, also attended the program.
