EduAsiaNews, Lampung — The University of Lampung (Unila) held a technical guidance session titled “Strategies to Strengthen SPMI for Accreditation Based on the Latest Regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology” on Tuesday (Sept. 29, 2026). The program was organized in response to recent changes in ministerial regulations while strengthening the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) in higher education institutions.
The program was officially opened by Unila Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Lusmeilia Afriani, D.E.A., IPM., ASEAN Eng., and featured Prof. Ari Purbayanto, Ph.D., as the keynote speaker. Also in attendance were leaders of private and public universities across Lampung, Unila vice rectors, deans, the director of the Graduate School, the secretary of the Internal Supervisory Unit (SPI), heads of various institutions, as well as members of Unila’s accreditation team and SPMI document revision team.
In her opening remarks, the rector emphasized that quality assurance in higher education was not merely about fulfilling administrative documentation requirements but was an integral part of university governance to ensure that the Tridharma of Higher Education — education, research and community service — was implemented measurably, evaluated and continuously improved.
“Universities cannot simply be aware of regulatory changes. More importantly, they need to translate those regulations into policies, standards, implementation mechanisms, evaluation and quality improvement. SPMI must become a living instrument in day-to-day governance, rather than merely a preparation for accreditation assessments,” she said.
The rector added that the training served as a crucial momentum for Unila, which is currently revising and refining its SPMI documents. The improvements are intended to ensure the reliability of the university’s internal governance in building a sustainable quality culture.
Meanwhile, Prof. Ari Purbayanto shared strategic perspectives on concrete steps to develop SPMI documents that are adaptive, operational and aligned with the ministry’s latest accreditation instruments.
Through the training, Unila is continuing to strengthen its role as a driving force for improving higher education quality in Lampung and the southern Sumatra region (Sumbagsel), with the aim of developing globally competitive university governance that delivers tangible benefits to society.
