EduAsiaNews, Jakarta — Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) hosted a delegation from Thailand’s Thaksin University for an academic visit to the UPNVJ campus in Jakarta on Thursday (Sept. 24, 2026). The meeting followed up on efforts by the two universities to develop cooperation, focusing on international academic programs, student and faculty mobility, benchmarking, guest lectures and potential cross-faculty collaboration.
The visit followed a previous meeting between UPNVJ and Thaksin University at the latter’s Songkhla Campus in Thailand on Sept. 3, 2026. During the meeting, the two universities discussed the development of academic cooperation, including joint teaching, collaborative research, academic mobility and potential joint education programs.
The Thaksin University delegation comprised Dr. Pittayatorn Kaewkong, dean of the International College; Dr. Ye Jin Kim; Dr. Chana Chancham; Dr. Min Liu; and Ms. Paweena Junpradit. The official International College website lists Dr. Pittayatorn Kaewkong as its dean.
The delegation was received by UPNVJ academic leaders and administrators, including the dean and vice dean for student affairs of the Faculty of Law (FH), the vice dean for student affairs of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES), the heads of the Master’s and Doctoral programs in Law, the heads of the D3 Banking and Finance and D3 Accounting programs, as well as representatives of UPNVJ’s International Office (KUI).
The meeting began at the Nusantara 1 Meeting Room with presentations on the profiles, academic fields and international programs of both universities. The forum then focused on identifying potential joint programs based on the academic strengths and needs of the two institutions.
Discussions covered opportunities for student and faculty mobility, guest lectures, knowledge exchange, benchmarking and the development of international academic activities at the study-program level. The meeting also provided an opportunity for faculties and study programs to identify areas that could be developed into sustainable joint activities.
Faculty of Law Conducts Benchmarking Session
Following the university-level meeting, the Thaksin University delegation continued with a benchmarking session at UPNVJ’s Faculty of Law. Dr. Ye Jin Kim held discussions with the faculty leadership on higher education provision, academic governance, study-program development and opportunities for cooperation in legal education in an international context.
The session enabled the two institutions to exchange experiences and perspectives on academic practices while identifying potential areas for collaborative programs.
Legal education is among the areas previously discussed by the two universities. During the UPNVJ-Thaksin University meeting in Thailand in early September, the two sides also discussed law, social sciences, English, as well as the development of master’s and doctoral education programs.
Thaksin University Academics Deliver Guest Lectures
In addition to the benchmarking session, the Thaksin University delegation also took part in guest lectures at UPNVJ’s Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) and Faculty of Law.
At FISIP, Dr. Min Liu and Dr. Chana Chancham served as guest lecturers in a session attended by the head of the undergraduate International Relations Study Program and representatives of other study programs. The session provided UPNVJ students and members of the academic community with international perspectives and an opportunity to interact directly with academics from Thailand.
Meanwhile, after participating in the benchmarking session, Dr. Ye Jin Kim delivered a guest lecture at the Faculty of Law. The series of activities expanded the benefits of the visit beyond institutional-level discussions to direct knowledge exchange with students and the wider academic community.
The Sept. 24 visit marked a continuation of the partnership-building process between the two universities. During their previous meeting in Thailand, UPNVJ and Thaksin University discussed follow-up measures to their letter of intent, including the development of a cooperation framework and specific programs that could be implemented by faculties and study programs. Thaksin University also noted that the two institutions had signed a letter of intent on Nov. 13, 2025, as an initial basis for developing their academic partnership.
UPNVJ Rector Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, M.A., Comm., previously emphasized that university internationalization should result in academic activities that provide tangible benefits to members of the academic community.
“Internationalization must be realized through academic mobility, joint research, knowledge exchange and educational programs that deliver tangible benefits,” Venus said during the UPNVJ-Thaksin University cooperation initiative.
Through the reciprocal visit, UPNVJ is encouraging continued communication between the institutions to develop concrete and sustainable programs. The collaboration with Thaksin University is expected to expand students’ and faculty members’ access to cross-border academic experiences, enhance knowledge exchange and strengthen UPNVJ’s network within the ASEAN higher education ecosystem(www.upnvj.ac.id)
