EduAsiaNews, Malang — Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) has officially received assistance in the form of one unit of an electric street sweeper from Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) on Thursday (April 2). The handover took place at the Graha Rectorate Lobby and represents a concrete step toward promoting a more modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly campus management system.

Deputy Branch Manager Business of BTN Malang Branch Office, Budi Siswaya, emphasized that the assistance is part of BTN’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, which focuses on strengthening contributions to the education sector.

“BTN strives to establish sustainable partnerships with higher education institutions so that we can mutually contribute, including in supporting campus environmental management,” he stated.

Furthermore, Budi explained that Universitas Negeri Malang was selected as a partner due to its strong track record of collaboration. He expressed hope that this partnership would continue to expand into other strategic areas.

“We see that UM has a strong commitment to the development of a sustainable campus environment,” he added.

The use of an electric street sweeper is considered a breakthrough in modernizing campus sanitation systems. In addition to improving operational efficiency, the vehicle helps reduce carbon emissions, thereby supporting the creation of a clean and healthy environment. This initiative also reinforces UM’s image as a campus that is adaptive to environmentally friendly technologies.

On the other hand, Bank Tabungan Negara views higher education institutions as key agents of change in sustainable development. Universities are not only centers of education but also drivers of ecological awareness. “It is hoped that campuses can serve as models in creating clean air and healthy environments for the broader community,” Budi remarked.

This initiative aligns with the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and Goal 13 (Climate Action). Through this support, Universitas Negeri Malang is expected to further strengthen its position as a pioneer of green campuses and serve as a model for sustainable environmental management in Indonesia.
