EduAsiaNews, Maluku – Universitas Pattimura, through its Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), organized the Orientation for Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata / KKN) for Batch 52, Wave II of the 2025/2026 academic year. The program involved 1,593 KKN students and 30 Field Supervising Lecturers (DPL) and was held on Wednesday, April 1, 2025, at the Student Center FKIP. The event was attended by Vice Rectors, the Dean of FISIP, LPPM Chair and Secretary, Vice Deans, and KKN students.

The theme for this year’s KKN is “Developing Village MSMEs and Legal Awareness through Impactful KKN Programs in Maluku Province”. This activity serves as the initial step for students to engage directly in community service as part of the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.

Dr. Semuel P. Ritiauw, S.Pd, M.Pd, Vice Chair of KKN Management at UNPATTI, reported that the orientation aims to equip students to create tangible impacts in the community. A total of 83 villages were designated as KKN locations to implement priority programs in line with the overarching theme. Additionally, one collaborative KKN group works with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Ambon, along with three thematic KKN groups. KKN placements this year are in Ambon City and West Seram Regency, with special considerations for certain students in Ambon.

To support innovation, KKN activities are facilitated through the digital SipKKN application developed by LPPM, integrating registration, reporting, and evaluation processes.

Collaboration extends to the Maluku Provincial Office of Cooperatives and MSMEs and the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law, aimed at strengthening program implementation, particularly in village MSME development and legal literacy. Students are expected to educate communities on strategic issues such as village financial management and legal regulations.

Prof. Dr. Fredy Leiwakabessy, M.Pd, Rector of UNPATTI, emphasized that KKN is vital for developing students who are academically competent and capable of contributing meaningfully to society. He highlighted that universities must support government programs, particularly in food security, energy resilience, and MSME-based economic empowerment. Students are encouraged to identify village potentials, such as agriculture, fisheries, tourism, and local resource management, to develop productive economic opportunities.

The orientation featured speakers including Fitrah Ambone, representing the Head of the Maluku Provincial Office of Cooperatives, MSMEs; Dr. Arman Anwar, M.Hum., Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law; Prof. Dr. Dominggus Malle, S.Pt, M.Sc., Vice Rector for Academic Affairs; Dr. Sherly Lewerissa, S.Pi, M.P., LPPM Secretary; and Prof. Ir. J. Leiwakabessy, M.S., Chair of KKN Management.

The event marks the first step for students to engage directly with the community while reinforcing UNPATTI’s role in developing competitive, innovative, and impactful graduates for regional and national development.
