EduAsiaNews, Surabaya — The Eid holiday period can sometimes present challenges for students in returning to a demanding academic routine. Significant changes in daily habits while in their hometowns often lead to decreased motivation or difficulty maintaining focus. This phenomenon is commonly referred to as post-holiday blues, characterized by feelings of sluggishness, loss of enthusiasm, or trouble concentrating after a break.

In response to this phenomenon, a psychology expert from the State University of Surabaya (Unesa), Meita Santi Budiani, emphasized the importance of a structured transition strategy. According to her, the initial step students should take is to reflect on their academic achievements prior to the holiday. Students need to identify which targets have been accomplished and which tasks remain pending in order to establish new priorities.

“It is important to identify which aspects need to be pursued in the near future. This reflection provides clear boundaries and serves as a compass to refocus on our goals,” she explained.

In addition to mapping out targets, she highlighted the importance of reactivating self-motivation. Students are encouraged to revisit the underlying reasons behind each academic goal, particularly in relation to their readiness for life after graduation. The professional world requires individuals to compete with many others who possess similar qualifications.

“Competitive advantage is not derived solely from academic performance, but also from the development of soft skills and active involvement in organizations. This transition period is the right moment to reignite one’s potential in preparation for future competition,” she added.

One key to overcoming post-holiday laziness is self-awareness. Students who understand their working rhythms and emotional conditions will find it easier to determine effective study methods, including managing rest time proportionally.

To help stabilize focus, Meita recommends the use of the Pomodoro Technique. This method involves concentrating on tasks for 25 minutes, followed by a short 5-minute break, repeated in cycles.

“This method helps us remain productive without feeling mentally burdened. We can begin working gradually even if our study mood has not fully returned to normal,” she stated.

Through reflective steps and practical work techniques, students are expected to rebuild their positive energy. A well-managed transition not only supports the completion of academic responsibilities but also fosters a resilient mindset in facing future challenges.
