EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – The Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., accompanied by the Vice Rector for Cooperation, Din Wahid, M.A., Ph.D., held an audience with the Director General of Islamic Education at the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, Prof. Dr. Amien Suyitno, M.A., to report on the progress of UIN Jakarta’s application for the status of a State University with Legal Entity (PTN–BH).

The meeting took place in the office of the Director General of Islamic Education at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Building on Friday (March 13, 2026). During the meeting, the Director General was also accompanied by the Director of Islamic Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Phil. Syahiron, M.A.

On that occasion, Rector Asep Jahar presented the developments of various stages that UIN Jakarta has undertaken in the process of applying for PTN–BH status. These include reports on strengthening institutional governance, improving academic quality, and implementing various strategic measures to enhance the institution’s competitiveness.

“We hope for support and guidance from the Director General of Islamic Education at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, particularly regarding this application for PTN–BH status. His support is essential to ensure that the institutional transformation of UIN Jakarta proceeds smoothly so that the university can contribute more broadly to the development of Islamic higher education under the Ministry of Religious Affairs,” he stated.

For UIN Jakarta, he continued, the transformation toward PTN–BH status is part of the university’s ongoing efforts to enhance its independence, governance flexibility, and capacity for academic and research development.

Furthermore, the transformation into a State University with Legal Entity status is also an important step in strengthening the prestige of state Islamic higher education institutions under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, enabling them to improve competitiveness in governance, academic excellence, and the production of outstanding graduates.

It is known that a State University with Legal Entity status (PTN–BH) is a form of public university established in accordance with Law No. 12 of 2012 on Higher Education. This scheme is designed to increase institutional autonomy in university governance while strengthening the quality and competitiveness of higher education institutions at both national and global levels.

With PTN–BH status, universities are granted greater flexibility in academic governance and are expected to operate more dynamically in responding to developments in science and technology, the acceleration of digitalization, and the evolving needs of industry and society. Therefore, PTN–BH institutions are expected to encourage universities to become more innovative, adaptive, and impactful.
