EduAsiaNews, Jogyakarta – The Qur’an Education Park (TPA) Competition as part of the Semarak Ramadan 1447 H / 2026 M organized by Lazismu Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) on Saturday (March 7) at the UMY Library, 1st floor, served both as a platform for religious outreach and as a nurturing space for children to develop a love for the Qur’an from an early age.

Rozikan, S.E.I., M.S.I., Manager of Lazismu UMY, stated that this was the first TPA competition organized since Lazismu UMY was established. He also expressed appreciation for the high level of enthusiasm from the participants.

“Alhamdulillah, on this occasion we were able to hold the first TPA competition since Lazismu UMY was founded. A total of 87 participants joined the event. We are very grateful for this enthusiasm, and although there were certainly some shortcomings in its implementation, the most important thing is that the substance of the competition ran smoothly,” he said.

Rozikan explained that the activity was not only a competition but also part of Lazismu UMY’s effort to foster Qur’anic generations from an early age. Through the competition, children are encouraged to enhance their skills in reading, memorizing, and conveying the messages of the Qur’an.

“This year, participants were limited to a maximum age of 12 years, equivalent to elementary school level. However, we hope that in the future, the competition can be expanded to include junior and senior high school levels. This would provide children with broader opportunities to develop their Qur’an reading and comprehension skills,” he added.

The TPA Competition featured several contest categories, including adhan (call to prayer), tilawatil Qur’an, pildacil (young preacher selection), and Musabaqah Hifdzil Qur’an Juz 30.

The event was officially opened by Prof. Faris Al-Fadhat, S.IP., M.A., Ph.D., Vice Rector for University Development and Islamic Studies at UMY. He expressed appreciation to Lazismu UMY for organizing an activity deemed highly educational and religiously valuable for the younger generation.

“Activities like this are very important as they provide a space for children to demonstrate their abilities in reading, memorizing, and understanding the Qur’an,” Faris said.

He also reminded participants to be grateful for having the opportunity to learn the Qur’an from an early age.

“In a hadith, it is mentioned that the best of people are those who learn and teach the Qur’an. Therefore, all children should be grateful for having started learning to read the Qur’an at a young age. This is also thanks to the guidance of the ustaz and ustazah who patiently mentor them. The opportunity to participate in this competition should be utilized well—not only to compete but also to increase enthusiasm for learning the Qur’an,” he added.

Through this activity, Lazismu UMY hopes to strengthen the role of philanthropic institutions in supporting Qur’an education for young generations while also fostering networking and collaboration among TPAs in the Special Region of Yogyakarta.
