EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – The Naval Architecture Study Program at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) continues to strengthen the quality of its education through the development of laboratory facilities and the expansion of collaborations with industry partners. These efforts are part of a strategic initiative to enhance the competitiveness of its graduates while preparing for international accreditation through the Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE). This strengthening of academic capacity is intended to ensure that the learning process remains aligned with the evolving needs of the maritime industry.

The Head of the Naval Architecture Study Program at UPNVJ, Dr. Wiwin Sulistyawati, S.T., M.T., explained that the development of the program is based on continuous evaluation of learning quality and graduate readiness to enter the workforce. One of the main focuses at present is the modernization of laboratory facilities to better support practical learning activities while also serving as a collaborative space with industry.

“Through continuously upgraded laboratory facilities, students not only learn theoretical concepts but are also able to directly apply their knowledge in ways that correspond to industry needs. In fact, industry partners may also utilize the equipment available in our laboratories,” Wiwin stated during an interview on Thursday (March 5, 2026).

The Naval Architecture Laboratory at UPNVJ is currently being developed not only as a learning facility but also as a unit that supports students’ practical activities while opening opportunities for partnerships with the maritime industry. This approach is expected to strengthen the connection between academia and the professional world, allowing students to gain more practical experience during their studies.

In addition to facility improvements, the study program also prepares students with additional competencies that are relevant to industry needs. Since 2020, final-year students have been facilitated to obtain HSE Marine (Health, Safety, and Environment) certification as professional preparation before entering the workforce.

In terms of field experience, the Naval Architecture Study Program at UPNVJ also implements an intensive industrial internship program during the sixth and seventh semesters. The internship is conducted for a full semester, with students placed in various partner companies.

According to Wiwin, the internship experience has proven to have a positive impact on graduate readiness. “Several students have even been recruited directly by the companies where they completed their internship programs,” she explained.

The study program is also actively building networks with alumni who are now working across various sectors of the maritime industry. This collaboration is utilized to open new internship opportunities while also expanding students’ access to professional networks in the workplace.

Through these various developments, the Naval Architecture Study Program at UPNVJ is committed to enhancing the quality of engineering education that is competitive at both national and international levels. The pursuit of international accreditation and the provision of professional certifications are part of the strategy to strengthen graduate readiness in facing the increasingly dynamic challenges of the maritime industry.

In line with the university’s policy direction, strengthening the quality of this study program also supports UPNVJ’s commitment to providing higher education that is adaptive to industry needs and technological advancements.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
