EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – The Undergraduate Biology Study Program at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) has been introduced as one of the university’s new academic programs, offering strong academic advantages through a biological approach integrated with medical science. Operating directly under the Faculty of Medicine, the program is designed to address the growing need for the development of modern biological sciences that are increasingly connected with the health sector and the biomedical industry.
The Coordinator of the Undergraduate Biology Study Program at UPNVJ, Desi Purwaningsih, S.Pd., M.Si., explained that the Biology program at UPNVJ possesses distinctive characteristics compared to biology programs in general. This statement was delivered during an interview with the UPNVJ Public Relations team on February 13, 2026.
According to Desi, the UPNVJ Undergraduate Biology Program is among the biology programs in Indonesia that operate directly under a Faculty of Medicine. This structure provides a unique advantage, as students gain a learning perspective in biology that is closely connected to the advancement of medical sciences.
“We offer specializations that are directly related to the needs of the health sector, namely Molecular Genomics and Neuroscience. Both specializations are highly relevant to current scientific developments as well as the needs of society and industry,” she stated.
She further explained that the Molecular Genomics specialization focuses on the study of genetics and molecular analysis, which play an important role in biomedical research, drug development, and disease diagnostic technologies. Meanwhile, the Neuroscience specialization explores the nervous system from a modern biological perspective, closely linked to health research, neurology, and the advancement of medical technologies.
Considering these significant opportunities, the curriculum of the UPNVJ Undergraduate Biology Program has been developed by taking into account scientific advancements, industry needs, and future challenges in the health sector. The learning process is designed to strengthen students’ analytical abilities, research competencies, and scientific understanding of various biological and biomedical issues.
With the support of an adaptive curriculum and specialized academic tracks, graduates of the UPNVJ Undergraduate Biology Program are expected to have broad career opportunities across various sectors. Graduates may pursue careers as researchers in medical and molecular biology fields, participate in drug development and diagnostic technology innovation, and contribute to the healthcare industry as well as research institutions.
In addition, graduates will also have opportunities to play a role in developing innovations in the health sector, whether in hospitals, research institutions, or the rapidly growing biotechnology industry.
Through strengthening its curriculum, enhancing research capacity, and integrating the program within the academic environment of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta is committed to providing biology education that is relevant to the advancement of modern science. This program is expected to produce graduates who are not only academically excellent but also capable of contributing to the progress of research and innovation in the health sector.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
