Unimal Anthropology Students Organize Disaster Relief Initiative in Ujong Pacu

Edu Asia New,UNIMALNEWS | Lhokseumawe — Students of the Anthropology Study Program, Universitas Malikussaleh (Unimal), Class of 2022, organized a disaster relief initiative for residents affected by flooding and landslides in Gampong Ujong Pacu, Dusun C, Muara Satu District, Lhokseumawe City, on Thursday (December 25, 2025).

The social initiative involved the active participation of students in helping to ease the burden of affected residents. The floods and landslides in the area disrupted community activities, damaged public facilities, and created difficulties in meeting basic needs.

During the activity, students distributed logistical assistance in the form of wearable clothing, staple food items, and other essential necessities. Some of the aid was sourced from LAZISNU and distributed through the Head of the NU Peduli Lhokseumawe Post, Dr. Teuku Kemal Fasya. The distribution was carried out directly to residents, taking into account priority needs and equitable allocation.

In addition to logistical assistance, the students worked together to clean the flood-affected meunasah so that it could be used again as soon as possible. They also helped establish a public kitchen and cooked together with residents to meet food needs while strengthening solidarity in the post-disaster situation.

Attention was also given to the psychological recovery of children. The students organized educational games and simple entertainment to help reduce trauma and bring moments of joy.

A student representative stated that the initiative was part of the students’ community service commitment and a manifestation of empathy and social solidarity. Meanwhile, Dr. Teuku Kemal Fasya expressed his hope that the activity would provide encouragement to the affected residents.

“May this modest assistance bring comfort to communities impacted by the disaster,” he said.

Residents of Ujong Pacu welcomed the initiative and noted that the assistance provided tangible benefits. According to the students, the action is expected to help alleviate the residents’ burden and foster a renewed spirit of togetherness in recovering from the disaster.
