Edu Asia New,Humas UPNVJ – Emergency Response Community Service Team (PKM) 2 of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) continued its humanitarian mission with full support from the Directorate General of Research and Community Service under the Directorate General of Research and Development, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. On the third day, the UPNVJ Emergency Disaster Response PKM Team in Aceh conducted health examinations for all age groups and provided specialized play activity therapy for children at the Lhok Beuringen Community Health Center, North Aceh Regency.
This initiative targeted residents affected by the subsequent flooding that has struck North Aceh Regency since early December 2025, with a focus on both physical and psychological recovery, particularly for children who are vulnerable to post-disaster trauma. This holistic approach is essential to accelerating community recovery in the aftermath of disasters, while also preventing short-term and long-term adverse impacts on overall health.
Since early morning, dozens of residents visited the community health center to receive free medical services. The medical team, led by Dr. Pritha Maya Savitri, conducted comprehensive examinations addressing various post-flood health complaints, ranging from respiratory tract infections and skin diseases to conditions requiring further medical referral. Services were delivered through a humanistic approach aimed at improving patient well-being and ensuring comfort for all patients.
In addition to physical care, the team prioritized the psychological recovery of affected children. Ns. Susiana Jansen, a pediatric nursing specialist, led educational and interactive play therapy sessions, such as coloring and group singing. These activities helped children express their emotions, reduce anxiety, and alleviate the effects of flood-related trauma. As a result, the initially tense atmosphere at the community health center transformed into a warm environment filled with children’s laughter. The play therapy activities also supported the development of creativity and cognitive abilities among children in the Lhok Beuringen Community Health Center area.
This activity is part of a series of ongoing initiatives carried out by the UPNVJ Emergency Disaster Response PKM Team over the past several days. UPNVJ, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Research and Community Service under the Directorate General of Research and Development of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, will continue implementing a series of community health service programs in North Aceh Regency in the coming days.(www.upnvj.ac.id)
