EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – The Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) organized a Socialization Session on the Intellectual Property Center and Halal Center on the first day of the 2026 Research, Community Service, and Entrepreneurship Week (PekanLit). The activity formed part of UPNVJ’s efforts to enhance the academic community’s understanding of the importance of protecting creative works and innovations, while introducing intellectual property assistance services and strengthening the halal ecosystem.
The session featured Dra. Sri Lastami, S.T., M.IPL., from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) as a speaker. In her presentation, Sri Lastami explained various aspects of intellectual property and emphasized the importance of protecting works and innovations produced by faculty members, researchers, and students.
Sri Lastami emphasized that intellectual property should be regarded as a strategic asset resulting from research and innovation processes. According to her, early protection is essential to ensure legal certainty for intellectual creations, prevent them from being easily claimed by other parties, and provide greater opportunities for further development and value creation for creators, institutions, and society.
This understanding is increasingly important as diverse research outputs and innovations continue to emerge within higher education institutions. Proper protection not only provides legal certainty for creators or inventors but also opens opportunities for broader utilization, downstream development, and further advancement of intellectual works.
In the following session, Dr. Yunita Amraeni, S.K.M., M.Kes., representing the Faculty of Health Sciences’ Focal Point, introduced the UPNVJ Intellectual Property Center and the assistance services available to the academic community. The Intellectual Property Center is expected to help lecturers, students, and researchers better understand and navigate the intellectual property protection process in a more structured manner.
Meanwhile, the Halal Center session was delivered by M. Faiz Andreaz Fawwaz, M.A. The presentation introduced the role of the UPNVJ Halal Center in supporting education, assistance, and the strengthening of the halal ecosystem. The establishment of the Halal Center reflects the university’s commitment to bringing halal-related services closer to the academic community and the wider public.
The session also provided an opportunity for discussion on practical needs related to intellectual property and halal services. Through interaction with the speakers and service managers, participants gained an overview of the initial steps to take and the relevant units to contact when further assistance is required.
As a follow-up to the socialization session, the Intellectual Property Center and LPPM Press also opened service booths at the 2026 PekanLit Exhibition. Lecturers, researchers, students, and visitors could consult directly with the respective teams regarding intellectual property protection and the publication of scholarly works.
Through this series of activities, LPPM UPNVJ seeks to provide services that are increasingly accessible, responsive, and relevant to the needs of the academic community. Strengthening the Intellectual Property Center and Halal Center is expected to encourage more UPNVJ research outputs, innovations, and publications to be protected, further developed, and translated into tangible benefits for society.
