EduAsiaNews, Jakarta — Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) sent off its Pencak Silat “Veteran” Jakarta Student Activity Unit (PSVJ) contingent on Thursday (August 27, 2026) to compete in the Indonesia Pencak Silat Banten Championship 2026. A total of 18 student-athletes and two coaches will represent UPNVJ at the championship, which will take place from August 28–30, 2026, at the Ciceri Youth Sports Hall, Serang, Banten. The PSVJ contingent is scheduled to compete in 30 categories, targeting approximately 30 medals and aiming to secure the Overall Champion title in the senior/student division.
PSVJ’s participation in the championship is part of the 2026 PSVJ Achievement Program, which aims to enhance UPNVJ students’ achievements in non-academic fields. Organized by Dunia Event Indonesia, the Indonesia Pencak Silat Banten Championship 2026 provides a competitive platform for martial artists to test their abilities in various combat and artistic categories.
The UPNVJ contingent comprises students from various study programs across six faculties: the Faculty of Computer Science (FIK), Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Faculty of Engineering (FT), Faculty of Law (FH), and Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES).
The athletes will compete in various categories, including men’s and women’s combat classes as well as artistic categories such as individual, doubles, team, and creative solo events. This composition enables PSVJ to participate in 30 categories throughout the championship.
Preparation for the Banten Championship has included a series of additional training sessions throughout August 2026. The program was designed to further refine the athletes’ techniques, physical condition, and overall readiness ahead of the competition. PSVJ has also appointed specialized coaches for the combat and artistic categories, namely Rian Ariya Setya as the combat coach and Riko Sanjaya as the artistic coach.
Participation in the competition is not solely focused on winning medals. PSVJ views the championship as an opportunity for students to develop their abilities, gain competitive experience, strengthen sportsmanship, and build networks with fellow pencak silat practitioners from various regions.
The participation also forms part of the students’ efforts to preserve pencak silat as an important element of Indonesia’s cultural heritage. Through competition, students not only sharpen their physical and technical skills but also develop discipline, courage, self-control, teamwork, and the determination to achieve the best results for the university.
The contingent has set ambitious targets for this championship. By competing in approximately 30 categories, PSVJ aims to win around 30 medals and secure the Overall Champion title in the senior/student division. These targets are expected to motivate the athletes to maximize the results of their training while continuing UPNVJ students’ tradition of achievement in sports competitions.
Institutional support for PSVJ’s participation was also demonstrated through the send-off and briefing led by UPNVJ Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Cooperation, Science and Information, Dr. dr. Ria Maria. She expressed her hope that the PSVJ contingent would achieve the best possible results and uphold the reputation of both UPNVJ and PSVJ.
The departure of the PSVJ contingent for the Banten Championship 2026 reflects UPNVJ’s commitment to providing students with broad opportunities to develop through both academic and non-academic activities.
