EduAsiaNews, Jakarta – Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) and Universiti Geomatika Malaysia strengthened their international network through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Universiti Geomatika Malaysia on Thursday (September 3, 2026). The agreement opens opportunities to develop collaboration in academic activities, research, innovation, and the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. The Faculty of Medicine (FK) of UPNVJ is also contributing to the strengthening of institutional relations, particularly by expanding international networks in education and healthcare.
The MoU serves as a foundation for both institutions to develop more focused and sustainable cooperation. The collaboration may take the form of academic knowledge and experience exchange, joint research, innovation development, and human resource capacity building.
The meeting was attended by several leaders of Universiti Geomatika Malaysia, including Prof. Dato’ Dr. Hj. Mohamad Nasir Bin Saludin, Head of the Centre of Postgraduate Studies (CEPOS); Assoc. Prof. Laila Subra, Dean of the Faculty of Bioeconomics & Health Sciences; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hemavathy A/P Surikumaran, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovations and Commercialization.
Representatives of the UPNVJ Faculty of Medicine Dean’s Office also attended the series of activities as part of efforts to strengthen inter-institutional relations while exploring the implementation of cooperation that could deliver direct benefits to the academic community.
The involvement of the UPNVJ Faculty of Medicine is significant because partnerships with overseas universities can expand opportunities for faculty members and students to engage in the global academic ecosystem. Such cooperation also creates opportunities for the exchange of ideas, competency development, cross-institutional research, and the utilization of research and innovation outputs to address challenges in education and healthcare.
For higher education institutions, international networks serve not merely to expand institutional relationships. Cross-border collaboration is also an instrument for improving the quality of learning, strengthening research productivity, providing access to more diverse academic perspectives, and developing human resources capable of adapting to global developments.
The signing of the MoU with Universiti Geomatika Malaysia is therefore intended to serve as a foundation for developing joint programs that can be implemented in concrete ways. Follow-up to the agreement is essential to ensure that the partnership does not remain merely an institutional document but develops into academic and research activities that generate benefits for both universities.
The partnership also strengthens the UPNVJ Faculty of Medicine’s efforts to develop a medical education ecosystem that is increasingly open to international collaboration. The exchange of institutional experiences is expected to support improvements in the quality of education, research capacity, innovation, and community service.
Through the MoU with Universiti Geomatika Malaysia, UPNVJ continues its efforts to expand higher education partnerships across Southeast Asia.
