EduAsiaNews, Lampung – Universitas Lampung (Unila) and the Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut) have established a strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a public lecture, held at the Dean’s Hall of the Faculty of Agriculture, Unila, on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

The Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems of Unila, Prof. Dr. Ayi Ahadiat, S.E., M.B.A., stated in his remarks that the MoU opens broader opportunities for collaboration in the fields of education, research, and community service.

“Through the signing of this MoU, we are opening wider avenues for collaboration, particularly in the forestry sector, which plays a crucial role in maintaining environmental sustainability and community welfare,” he said.

He emphasized that the Faculty of Agriculture at Unila plays a vital role in supporting the development of the forestry sector through research, innovation, and strengthening student capacity.

This collaboration is expected to produce concrete programs, such as joint research, sustainable forest management, natural resource conservation, curriculum development based on policy needs, as well as internships and field practice opportunities for students.

Prof. Ayi also highlighted that this partnership aligns with Unila’s efforts to strengthen its reputation as an impact-driven and sustainability-oriented university. “With this MoU, God willing, it will elevate Unila’s status and reputation toward becoming a world-class university,” he remarked.

He added that sustainability issues are a significant focus in global rankings, including QS Sustainability. Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Ir. Mahfudz, M.P., in his virtual remarks, emphasized that the MoU is not merely an administrative document.

“This memorandum of understanding is not just an administrative document, but a strategic foundation for building stronger synergy between the government and higher education institutions in supporting forestry development,” he stated.

Mahfudz explained that this collaboration is directly connected to the tri dharma of higher education and the practical needs of forestry development in the field. “Our cooperation is not only conceptual, but also operational and has a direct impact on people’s lives,” he added.

He further noted that future forestry challenges are becoming increasingly complex, ranging from climate change, deforestation, and conservation to community welfare. Therefore, higher education institutions such as Unila are expected to become centers of innovation and solutions for sustainable forestry development in Lampung and Indonesia.
